Photo Courtesy of Kerri Salter Loxahatchee, FL – January 31, 2012 – The Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center (VTRC) held its second preliminary “Buck Off” last Thursday at the White Horse Tavern’s Patio. The fundraiser benefits the VTRC, an organization that witnesses countless miracles on a daily basis and truly lives up to its meaning, “to overcome.” The “Buck Off” consists of three preliminary rounds in which teams of four compete on a mechanical bull to earn the highest score. The winning team will move on to the final event held on February 10, 2012. The buzz about the event has been nothing but positive. “The conversations about the ‘Buck Off’ have been simply amazing,” said Bobbi Rottman, with Equine Solutions. “The energy here is about double what it was last year, and that’s impressive considering that the winners from last year said it was the talk of the town all year.” As Rottman’s “brain-child,” its success means the world to her. She had wanted to help the VTRC reach out to the younger generations and hold an event where everyone could come together and have a great time. The first time the event was held was at the annual dinner and auction three years ago. The response was so immense that the committee had to turn people away. Soon after, it was decided to make the “Buck Off” its own fundraising event for the VTRC leading up to the annual benefit. They have received overwhelming support from sponsors throughout the years, and this year Floridian Community Bank, Palm Beach Equine Clinic and White Horse Tavern Catering are to thank. Photo by Kendall Bierer/PMG Loxahatchee, FL – December 27, 2011 – The Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center (VTRC) held its first Palm Beach School for Autism Horse Show on Tuesday, December 20, 2011. The students have been participating in a recently developed program by the VTRC and the Palm Beach School for Autism (PBSFA) over the last eight weeks, using the therapeutic effectiveness of the horses to assist the children with their sensory abilities. The PBSFA Horse Show marked the first event to take place in the VTRC’s Covered Arena. Executive Director of the VTRC Ruth Menor acted as the judge and announcer for the event. Each student, with the help of a volunteer, showed what he or she had learned over the past two months, completing pole bending exercises, holding two-point over cavelettis, and posting during the trot. “The parents are thrilled with this program,” PBSFA teacher Mary Muth said. “A lot of our parents have students who have sensory issues and are not very comfortable with animals. Our students have really opened up with the horses over the past eight weeks; they look very natural on the horses and they are totally comfortable. The horses are great at sensing the students, and knowing how to make them feel more at ease. I feel confident in saying that the staff and horses at Vinceremos are very skilled at working with children with Autism; it takes special skills to make it a success for everyone.” Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center Picked for the Great Charity Challenge Drawing
Loxahatchee, FL – December 14, 2011 – The 2011 Holiday HorseFest held in Downtown West Palm Beach, FL, on Sunday, December 11, 2011, at the Meyer Amphitheatre was a huge success. Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center (VTRC) emerged victorious as a nominated charity to be represented at the 2012 FTI Great Charity Challenge presented by Fidelity Investments on the evening of Friday, February 17, 2012. As one of the 32 selected charities, VTRC will be randomly assigned to one of the sponsored teams competing for the top prize money at the Great Charity Challenge. The Challenge is a competition consisting of two junior/amateur-owner riders combined with one Olympic or world-class rider. This year, $1.5 million is the goal, and all proceeds will directly go to the participating charities, with the least amount received being $10,000. VTRC also had the honor of participating in the opening ceremonies of Holiday HorseFest. Juan Burbano, A. J. Zembrzuski, Carrie MacMillian, and Jason Legato performed a color guard routine to represent the VTRC and the Special Olympics. Photo Credit: Courtesy of the Client Loxahatchee, FL – May 4, 2011 – The Spring Horse Driving Trial at Port Mayaca Polo Club, Saturday and Sunday May 14th and 15th, will include a charity luncheon to benefit the new driving program at the Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center. The Luncheon will be held Saturday the May 14th during the Dressage and Cones portion of the competition in Okeechobee, FL. The competition will begin at 9 am and the luncheon will be served from 12 until 2pm. The competition is similar to 3 day eventing, including dressage, cones which is similar to the stadium jumping portion, and a cross country portion, including obstacles that will be driven on Sunday starting at 9am. Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the start up of VTRC’s new handicap driving program. The addition of a driving program will allow the center to meet the needs of people who may not be able to ride but will enjoy the camaraderie of the barn and the excitement of competition. VTRC Director of Development Susan Guinan has been committed to starting a driving program at VTRC for sometime. She began driving in the 1980s, and has competed at Gladstone and Devon and many other shows along the east coast. She continued her driving while living in England and was involved with the RDA driving program. She is pleased to be able to bring this opportunity to VTRC. Photo Courtesy of the Client. Wellington FL – March 16, 2011 – Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center (VTRC) is preparing to participate in the Special Olympic Equestrian Games. This weekend 39 riders from VTRC will be competing at the county games to qualify for the area competition. The Regional and State games will be held in April and May. The County qualifier will be held Saturday March 19, 2011 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. VTRC is providing ten of their 23 horses for this weekend’s event. Thirty-nine riders from VTRC and six from Haiti will be participating this Saturday. The riders will compete to qualify for the Area Special Olympic Equestrian Games April 2, 2011 at the Jim Brandon Arena. The competitors then advance to the State Special Olympic Equestrian Games in Tampa on May 20 and 21, 2011 and finally International Special Olympic Equestrian Games. Riders as young as 8 including more mature riders compete in the Special Olympic Games. This year’s competition includes a team of riders from Haiti. The Royal Inn has donated rooms for the athletes during their stay, with the help of Councilman Jess Santa Maria. Last March a tragic accident left King Dye with a brain injury unable to remember, walk, or speak. After months of therapy and with the help of the program and horses at Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center, King Dye is on the road to success. Vinceremos, however, is only one part of the incredible team that has helped with her recovery as Arlene White and Stacey Brown have also played tremendous roles in this remarkable story. CBS12 acknowledged Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center on February 25, 2011 for their part in the success of King Dye’s recovery. The segment featured Vinceremos’ work with King Dye including statements from King Dye about her recovery. Since she was able to start therapy King Dye has devoted hours a day to her recovery. She is determined to return as a champion and her goal is to once again compete. She is counting on the animal she loves to help her make a full recovery. Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center has been helping her achieve these results and hopes to see her achieve these goals. (Photo courtesy of Rebecca Hinson) Wellington, FL (March 8, 2011) – New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag enjoyed one of the most rewarding evenings of the charity season when she served as the Celebrity Hostess of the recent Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center’s Benefit Auction and Dinner Dance. It was the second year in a row for Hoag to host the event, and the sold-out benefit featured 500 guests in attendance at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida. “It was another fantastic evening and it was bigger and better than ever,” Hoag said. “I know firsthand what time spent with horses can do for the soul. To be able to help disabled individuals have the same experience is a gift I’m glad to give.” During the benefit, all 22 of the Vinceremos horses were “adopted,” which insures that Vinceremos will be able to continue providing recreational and therapeutic riding instruction for special needs children and adults in Palm Beach County. As a former rodeo bareback bronc rider, Parelli will put his rodeo knowledge to work for a great cause when he joins Robert Dover, Margie Engle, and an esteemed panel of judges during the Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center’s Mechanical Bull Riding Contest. Parelli, who won the Bareback Rookie of the Year title in 1972, will help judge the “Final Buck Off” during the Vinceremos Dinner and Auction at the International Polo Club on February 18th. The “Buck Off” competition will take place during a Vinceremos benefit and auction entitled “My First Pony”. The event is sponsored by Vetericyn and is held at the Players Club. The evening’s winning team will join the two other teams from the other two Buck Offs as qualifiers to compete at the VTRC Annual Dinner held on Friday, February 18, 2011. Guests can perfect their bull riding techniques before the competition from 7-8pm for $10 per ride. Starting at 8p.m. the competition begins with three hours of action packed bull riding fun. Teams of four can ride for $100 and individuals can ride for $30. All participants receive a BUCK OFF t-shirt. The winning team receives a ticket to VTRC Benefit Auction Dinner and a spot to compete in the finals, held at the International Polo Club February 18, 2011 during the VTRC Benefit Auction Dinner. This year’s winning teams will compete against The Bad Boy Vets last year’s “Buck Off” champions. Floridian Community Bank secured their spot in the first week of competition. Loxahatchee, FL – January 11, 2011 – Get out your planners and your cell phones to schedule yourself for a night you don’t want to miss in Wellington, FL. Friday, February 18, 2011 is Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center’s Benefit Auction Dinner & Dance, which will be held at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, FL. The theme for this year’s gala is “My First Pony,” and it will again feature the hugely popular mechanical bull riding competition. “My First Pony” is this year’s theme, and will showcase riders from all levels and disciplines and their first ponies. These riders will include Mason Phelps, Tuny Page, and Tami Hoag along with riders from the VTRC whose first ponies are mounts owned by VTRC. After last year’s success with the Mechanical Bull riding competition, VTRC has stepped it up a notch this year to add another layer of excitement to the Annual Dinner Dance. This year, there will be three “Buck Off” events held at the Players Club on Thursday nights before the Dinner Dance. These dates are Thursday, January 27, 2011, Thursday February 3, 2011 and Thursday February 10, 2011. Each of these “Buck Off” Events will serve as the qualifying rounds for the Final “Buck Off” Event, which will be held on the night of the Dinner Dance. The final teams qualified will compete against the winners from last year’s competition, the “Bad Boy Vets” made up of Bill Patterson, Bryan Dubynsky, Johnny Jack, and Travis Laas. |
