Gladstone, NJ – April 12, 2011 – The United States Equestrian Team Foundation is pleased to announce that Ali Wolff of New Albany, OH, has been selected as the 2011 recipient of the Maxine Beard Show Jumping Rider Award. Wolff received the Maxine Beard Award trophy at the American Invitational on April 9, 2011, at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL. The selection was based on Wolff’s competitive record and future potential to represent the United States in international competition. The award provides Wolff the opportunity to be credentialed and travel with the U.S. delegation to the 2011 FEI World Cup Finals in Leipzig, Germany, from April 27 – May 1. She will observe the operations of an international championship, including the stabling area, veterinary inspections and schooling, and will walk the courses with the U.S. Show Jumping Coach, George H. Morris. At the young age of 21, Ali Wolff has already accomplished a great deal as an up-and-coming equestrian. Her biggest win came in 2010 when she won the Individual Gold medal at the North American Junior Young Rider Championships. After holding the 23rd position she quickly climbed the ranks throughout the competition, eventually capturing the top prize. “I didn’t expect much going into the second round, only to support my team and try to get a team medal,” said Wolff. “Things started shaping up from there and it’s just such a great award to win, it is still sinking in. Now, the highly-successful and decorated driver is adding two new equine teammates to his barn with the goal of increasing the depth and talent of his world-class combined driving team. Uniek (pronounced unique and called Nick around the barn) and Splash, two bay, 16.2-hand KWPN horses bred in Holland, are now part of Team Weber thanks to the generosity of Jane Forbes Clark, an active supporter of high performance equestrian sports as well as President and CEO of the United States Equestrian Team Foundation. “Following the 2010 World Equestrian Games, Jane and I had a long conversation with the U.S. team coach, Michael Freund, and we identified Nick and Splash as two of the most talented horses in the sport,” Weber said. “We were lucky enough that they seem to fit with the group we have going in size and color. Jane had previously leased the horses but when we made the decision to move forward she purchased them.” Nick and Splash bring international experience to the table, a component that benefits Team Weber. “With these new horses added to my existing team, our goals for 2011 are to prepare ourselves for the 2012 World Championships in Riesenbeck and to continue to insure our preparedness for the 2014 World Equestrian Games in France,” Weber said. “It would also be nice to win a ninth USEF National Four-In-Hand Combined Driving Championship.” USET Foundation Welcomes New Trustees
Gladstone, NJ – February 8, 2011 – The United States Equestrian Team Foundation is pleased to announce the election of new Trustees Jenny Sutton, Chester Weber and Jack Wetzel. They will aid and assist the USET Foundation in its mission to support the competition, training, coaching, travel and educational needs of America’s elite and developing international, high-performance horses and athletes in partnership with the United States Equestrian Federation. Jenny Sutton, of Naples, FL, has been a long-time supporter of equestrian sport and currently owns one of Olympic Medalist Beezie Madden’s top horses, Prima. Sutton also lends great support to the hunter industry, having hosted the first ever stand-alone hunter derby in 2008 at her Wrenwood Farm in Naples. She currently competes in the Adult Amateur Hunter division. Jenny was a member of the USET Foundation’s National Advisory Committee for 2009 and 2010 and is also an International Council Member of the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation. Chester Weber, of Ocala, FL, is one of the country’s top drivers and represented the United States at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) where he helped earn a Team Silver Medal. His other accomplishments include winning the USEF National Four-In-Hand Driving Championship for eight years in a row through 2010. Weber was also a member of the Silver Medal team in 2002, and he was the first American to ever win an individual medal at the World Driving Championships. In 2008, he captured the Individual Silver Medal in the Four-in-Hand World Driving Championships in Beesd, The Netherlands. Aiken, SC – February 7, 2011 – The Salute to Driving fundraising event that will be held in Aiken, and Windsor SC, February 19-21, 2011 is quickly approaching. This début event will benefit this country’s High Performance Driving programs for the United States Equestrian Team Foundation. The exciting weekend event will feature a beautiful dinner and auction on Saturday evening, multiple driving clinics with some of the world’s top trainers, and a Combined Test Competition for all on Monday. The Salute to Driving event is being held to help raise awareness and educate different audiences about the discipline of driving. Salute to Driving will kick off its festivities on Saturday, February 19, 2011, with clinics by Michael Freund and Larry Poulin at Chateau Log and Courage to Lead Farms. Auditing these clinics is free, and Freund will lead the USEF long listed drivers while Poulin teaches the developing drivers. Other special events include a cones clinic by Suzy Stafford, a fun hazards demonstration, harnessing demonstrations, and a carriage exhibit. Later in the evening, guests are invited to a fundraising dinner and auction at Wendy O’Brien’s Trout Walk Farm in Aiken. The affair will get underway at 6:30 p.m. with a catered dinner and full bar. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on fabulous items during the live auction. Highlighted items include two lessons with top driver Michael Freund at Little Everglades or Live Oak 2011, two lessons with Chester Weber during Live Oak 2011, a dinner for eight presented by Jack Wetzel at his new log cabin in Aiken, a week long vacation in a large Victorian Home on the beach in Cape May, NJ, a week long vacation in Block Island, RI, during the months of September or October, a print, “Patriots Barn” by Jamie Wyeth, signed and remarked by the artist, and Brunch for four at the Green Boundary Club. Wellington, FL – February 2, 2011 – The United States Equestrian Team (USET) Foundation Board of Trustees hosted a cocktail reception on Friday, January 28, 2011, to honor the equestrian athletes that represented the United States during the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG), the recipients of the Foundations’ Gold Medal Club Anniversary Awards, the Lionel Guerrand-Hermes Trophy, and the Whitney Stone Cup. The reception was held at Player’s Club in Wellington, FL. The reception opened with lovely remarks by Foundation President Jane Forbes Clark, recognizing the efforts of all the equestrian athletes that represented the United States during WEG, as well as their team of supporters. The United States earned a Team and Individual Gold Medal and an Individual Silver Medal in Reining, an Individual Gold Medal in Vaulting, a Team Silver and Individual Bronze Medal in Driving, and two Individual Bronze Medals in Dressage. The party also recognized members of the Gold Medal Club, the most loyal and generous supporters of the USET Foundation. These individuals have been a vital and essential source of support to the U.S. equestrian teams. Special awards were presented to those supporters recognizing their giving at the Gold Medal Club level for 10, 15, 25 and 30 years. Gladstone, NJ – January 13, 2011 – The United States Equestrian Team Foundation is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2011 Lionel Guerrand-Hermes Trophy will be talented eventing rider Tiana Coudray. Each year this award is presented to a Young Rider in one of the Olympic disciplines who exemplifies both sportsmanship and horsemanship. In 2011 Coudray had a banner year, winning the Jersey Fresh CCI*** and the Galway Downs International Horse Trials CIC***, as well as leading the U.S. efforts at the Boekelo CCI*** in Holland. “When the USET Foundation told me that I was the winner of this year’s award I went and looked it up,” commented Coudray. “I was pretty honored to look at the other names on the list throughout the years and think of what those people have gone on to do later in their careers.” Over the years, Coudray has consistently shown her talent as a young rider. She won Team Gold at the North American Young Riders Championships in both 2004 and 2008, and took home the Individual Silver Medal in 2004. She has won the United States Eventing Association Young Rider of the Year Award an amazing three times in 2005, 2007, and 2009. USET Foundation Trustees Tuny Page and Kim Boyer Host Donor Reception to Honor Riders and Thank SupportersWellington, FL – January 12, 2011 – On Saturday, January 8, 2011, Tuny and David Page and Kim and Fredrick Boyer hosted a wonderful cocktail reception for the United States Equestrian Team Foundation at the Page residence in Wellington, FL. The evening’s events were held to honor those who support the sport of Dressage through the USET Foundation and give them the opportunity to meet and mingle with the athletes who benefit from their support. “I had no idea how much it actually costs to train, transport, coach and really make the team work,” noted 2010 World Equestrian Games Dressage U.S. rider and Olympian Steffen Peters. “I am so very thankful to the USET Foundation and everyone who supports the Foundation. The team could not function without their incredible generosity – so thanks again for everything you do for us!” All four members of the United States Dressage Team who competed at the World Equestrian Games last fall were in attendance on Saturday night, along with many other distinguished Dressage riders. Wellington, FL – January 11, 2011 – Saturday, January 8, 2011 marked the final day of the weeklong George Morris Horsemastership Clinic held at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) where 12 of the country’s top young riders showcased their skills. At the completion of the final day, all of the participants had the opportunity to enjoy luncheon hosted by the United States Equestrian Team Foundation at the International Club at PBIEC. Participants in the clinic included: Throughout the week, riders completed five mounted sessions with Morris, and were also treated to 10 other presentations from various specialists ranging from United States Team Veterinarian Tim Ober to Olympians McLain Ward, Laura Kraut, Anne Kursinski and Beezie Madden, as well as ASPCA Ambassadors Georgina Bloomberg and Brianne Goutal. Gladstone, NJ – January 10, 2011 – The United States Equestrian Team Foundation is pleased to announce that Combined Driver Tucker S. Johnson of Hobe Sound, Florida, is the recipient of the 2011 Whitney Stone Cup. The award is presented annually to an active competitor who displays consistent excellence in international competition and high standards of sportsmanlike conduct while serving as an ambassador for the United States and equestrian sport. Johnson is a tremendously accomplished driver who helped lead the United States to a Team Silver Medal as well as receiving an Individual Bronze Medal during the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. This is the second year that Johnson has received the Whitney Stone Cup, after being awarded the prestigious honor in 2001. Johnson now plans to retire from the competitive sport as he spent 2010 achieving many milestones. Along with other achievements, Johnson guided his Four-In-Hand team to a second place finish at the Land Rover International Driving Grand Prix at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May. After helping the United States win a Team Silver Medal at the 2002 World Equestrian Games, Johnson went on to a repeat performance at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky. He was a member of the Silver Medal Team and after earning a 150.06 over the three phases of competition he took home the Individual Bronze Medal, achieving his personal best at a World Championship event. |
