Wellington, FL (March 23, 2010) – Tami Hoag consistently entertains fans with her spine-tingling mystery novels, and during the finale of the 2010 Top Shelf Dressage Under the Stars competition Hoag proved that she can also thrill the crowd and the judges while in the dressage ring. Hoag, a New York Times bestselling author and professional dressage rider, rode away the winner of the much-anticipated Dressage under the Stars finale held at the Players Club & Restaurant in Wellington, featuring over $10,000 in prizes.
Hoag rode Feliki, her 23-year-old Grand Prix mare, to the victory, riding away with armfuls of prizes from generous sponsors, as well as a $2,500 check from the Players Club and a brand new dressage saddle from Custom Saddlery, valued at $3,600. “Feliki gave us a great performance and she certainly doesn’t act her age,” said Neil Hirsch, owner of the Players Club. Feliki was decked out in sparkles from head to toe. Her coat and her hooves were sparkly and she topped off her look with a gold curb rein.
Hoag was ecstatic about the win. “It was awesome; I was so proud of Feliki”, exclaimed Hoag. “And the prizes were impressive. We just don’t have many dressage competitions that offer this level of prizes and it was so much fun,” added Hoag. Hoag braved coming out to compete as she was just recuperating from a flu. In addition, the weather had been cool and rainy in the afternoon, but Hoag wanted to compete. By 5 PM the night of the Finale the arena footing was perfect and Hoag said “game on”. It was a gamble that paid off handsomely for Hoag and Feliki put on show that will not soon be forgotten.
Kelly O’Shea Duncan and her Hackney Horse, Baryshnikov, won the Intermediaire I Freestyle at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II, held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center.
West Palm Beach, FL (March 18, 2010) – Kelly O’Shea Duncan and her Hackney Horse, Baryshnikov, won the Intermediaire I Freestyle class at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II, proving that Hackney Horses can excel in the dressage world. Sponsored by Classic Equine Equipment, a nationally recognized leader in quality horse stall systems and stable accessories, O’Shea Duncan won a polar fleece vest from Classic Equine.
O’Shea bought Baryshnikov four-and-a-half years ago out of a field, and the Hackney Horse was untrained and unbroken. Elizabeth Goth bred Baryshnikov in hopes that he would become part of her four-in-hand driving team, but his markings didn’t match the rest of the team.
Baryshnikov’s incorrect markings turned out to be a blessing in disguise for O’Shea Duncan. “He has always been in the national rankings in the open division in the USDF and the USEF,” O’Shea Duncan said. “He’s doing the high performance and I’m hoping to go to Gladstone with him.”
Wellington, FL – March 17, 2010 – Diamante Farms had a great weekend of competition at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II, held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center. Diamante Farms is a dressage training, showing, and boarding facility in Wellington, FL, which is owned by Terri and Dick Kane. The Kane’s daughter Devon and Diamante Farms’ head trainer Michelle Gibson each showed their young horses over the weekend and each took home victories. The official judges for the weekend included: Axel Steiner “O”, Natalie Lamping “I”, Lorriane Mac Donald “I”, Fran Dearing “S”, and Joan Humphrey “S”.
Devon Kane showed her Danish gelding Sanchez to victory in Sunday’s FEI Test for Five-Year-Olds with a score of 75.200%. Sanchez is turning five this year and Kane is showing the young horse in the FEI classes to qualify for this year’s National Championships. This was Sanchez and Kane’s second show together, their first just one week prior at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby, where they did very well and moved into fourth place in the national standings.
Sanchez is Blue Hors Romanov out of a Trakehner mare by Camelot. Kane bought Sanchez in Denmark a year ago, but left him in Europe to stay in training there and be gelded. She then travelled to Germany this summer to work with trainer Hubertus Schmidt and brought Sanchez home to Florida this fall.
