Everybody loves a parade. Especially a big fancy one full of horses and flowers! For 120 years, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses parade has been a favorite New Year’s tradition. Listen in today as we talk with the Chairman of the Parade’s Equestrian Committee, as well as parade participants the All American Cowgirl Chicks and the Victorian Roses Ladies’ Riding Society.
Guest: Trish Lynn of the All American Cowgirl Chicks joins us to speak about the excitement of being invited back to the Tournament of Roses Parade four times – http://www.cowgirlchicks.com.
Guest: Dyan an Dina (Velvet Rose and Margarita Rose) of the Victorian Roses Ladies Riding Society join us to talk about this beautifully turned out group and their plans for riding in the Rose Parade – http://www.victorianroses.org/.
Dear Supporters,
We are still getting so many emails and letters from you now that the Pony Express deadline has been extended until September 10th! Keep them coming, we are so appreciative of all your effort! We have surpassed our goal so much and are just over the moon!
Current Pony Express Count: 30,521
We are in the process of finalizing our float design for the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day. Thank you all for sending in all your float suggestions to us. We have incorporated bits and pieces of a lot of them. We cannot wait to present our mustangs to 53 million viewers and thousands of spectators!
We have started a SAM Cam. I will give periodic video updates on important things going on with the SAM team. Our first one can be viewed here or on the Facebook pages.
Also, be sure to visit the News and Events section on www.savingamericasmustangs.org for updates on the roundups currently happening and more information on the wild horse issue. It’s very important to educate yourself, so you can educate others.
Saving America’s Mustangs is thrilled to officially announce that the mustangs will be in the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day! Please watch on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 8 a.m. (PST), along with 53 million spectators from around the world, as we celebrate the New Year at the 122nd Rose Parade. The parade is well-known for amazing floral floats, high-stepping equestrians, and spirited bands. We will get double the exposure as our national icons are featured in the equestrian side as well as the float side of the parade!
Accompanying our mustangs in the parade will be: our retired military service dogs, members of several Native American tribes, dancers, Active Military Personnel, Wounded Soldiers, and Veterans! A very patriotic tribute to our American heritage!
Please share this with your friends and family. We would love to wave to you in the stands as we trot by, but if you can’t make the parade in person, please watch it live on television!

What horse lover hasn’t marveled over the all-Palomino horse troupe in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade? Prancing golden horses in shining silver-encrusted saddles, their riders bedecked in colorful costumes and waving red, white, and blue American flags; it’s a sight to stir anyone’s patriotic sentiments. Me, I just drooled over the horses, trying to decide which would be the fanciest mount for my own dream parade.
The stuff of horsey dreams for decades, the Long Beach Mounted Police’s (LBMP) all-Palomino troupe rode in their first Tournament of Roses (ToR) Parade in 1948; they’re still going strong in their 62nd year of parading,

Carla Routt, granddaughter of troupe co-founder Jack Turner and the first female member and female president
of the LBMP, says the all-volunteer riders are really ambassadors for the LBMP and the city of Long Beach.
“We often travel to different events, presenting gifts from the Long Beach Police to various governments. We’ve been in the Eisenhower and Nixon Inaugural Parades, and have traveled extensively throughout North and South America,” she says. The troupe also provides an average of 8,000 hours of annual service at charitable events and functions, and has a scholarship program for deserving young equine-science candidates.
