Documentary Film Chronicles the Heart and Soul of the Thoroughbred Horse Industry

Beyond the Stone Fences spotlights Kentucky Thoroughbred horse farms

Lexington, Kentucky (September 2, 2010) – At a time when worldwide attention is focused on Kentucky for the upcoming World Equestrian Games, juxtaposed by the adverse effects of the economic downturn on the state’s equine industry, a new documentary film tells the story of the Kentucky’s Thoroughbred horse farms. Produced by Lexington-based High Impact Productions, the thirty-minute Beyond the Stone Fences details the majesty, as well as the daily operations, of six regional horse farms.

Premiering nationally on the cable network HRTV, Monday, September 20 at 10:30 p.m. ET, Beyond the Stone Fences features lush, never-before-seen high definition footage and exclusive interviews with farm owners, operators and staff from Lexington’s Calumet, Donamire, Crestwood and Mt. Brilliant Farms; Winstar Farm in Versailles; and Three Chimneys Farm in Midway. The film will also air on Kentucky’s PBS affiliate, KET, beginning Sunday, September 5 at 10:30 p.m. ET.

FROM THE PAULICK REPORT: PRO-INDUSTRY REPUBLICANS

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010 | Contributors - Press, Horse Racing | Comments

By Ray Paulick

If I had a “baseball card” that also included my political leanings it would say “bats right, votes left.” After Richard Nixon’s reelection in 1972, I put a bumper sticker on my car that read: “Don’t blame me. I voted for McGovern.” When I lived in Chicago I thought the city’s “one-party system” was political heaven because the only real election was the Democratic primary. During my spare time in 2008, I was a volunteer in the campaign that helped elect Barack Obama president. Ever since my political leanings were formed in the 1960s, it has been against my basic inner fibers to support any candidate with an R after their name.

But in the past couple of years, I have seen many of my friends and associates, including the Paulick Report’s associate publisher Brad Cummings, stand up for candidates and elected officials they would not support except for one quality: they spoke up for the horse industry in Kentucky.

So for me to ignore those Republicans who are fighting for our industry in difficult primaries this spring would be hypocritical. Across the board, I probably disagree with the following candidates on a myriad of issues but at a critical juncture for horse racing, I proudly ask that the industry get behind their candidacies.

Public enemy number one for all horse folks should be the flaky and downright obtrusive Alice Forgy Kerr. She voted against VLT’s at the track, voted for an increase in the ADW tax and has done almost nothing to support the racing and breeding industry.

Lexington, KY – July 20, 2009 – This week the Kentucky Summer Horse Shows will launch into action at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The Kentucky Summer Horse Show will be held this week, starting on Wednesday, July 22, and concluding on Sunday, July 26. The Kentucky Summer Classic will follow from July 29-August 2, 2009.

Featuring classes for hunters and jumpers, the Kentucky Summer Horse Shows welcome riders and horses from across the country. Both weeks have a USEF 5* Jumper Rating and feature two weekend grand prix competitions. Each grand prix event features two rounds of exciting action; only the best horse-and-rider combinations advance to the jump-off round, where speed is the deciding factor.

The $40,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix will be held in the evening on Saturday, July 25, at the Kentucky Summer Horse Show. The $40,000 Kentucky Classic Grand Prix is sponsored by Air 51 and Audi of Lexington and will be held the evening of Saturday, August 2, at the Kentucky Summer Classic.

The Kentucky Summer Horse Shows offer two $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classics, which are part of the Hagyard Challenge Series. These classics are scheduled for the evenings of Thursday, July 23, and Thursday, July 30, 2009.

The Hagyard Challenge Series is a summer-long competition that includes seven grand prix events. With $215,000 in total prize money, the series is a unique and exciting feature that is only offered at the Kentucky Horse Park. The leading rider of the entire series will win a $50,000 Leading Rider Bonus in September after the series’ final class, the $50,000 CSI-W Lexington Grand Prix.

For the Kentucky Summer Horse Shows, interviews with top riders, trainers, and owners can be arranged for media on-site. Daily competition press releases will be issued and high-resolution photos are available.
