FEI General Assembly

FEI General Assembly Opens in Rio de Janeiro (BRA)

Rio de Janeiro (BRA), 11 November 2011 – The Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) General Assembly opened in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) today with a meeting of the FEI Bureau, the first in four days of meetings culminating in the General Assembly on Monday 14 November.

At its meeting today, the Bureau unanimously agreed to a proposal from the Dressage Committee to withdraw the proposed addition to Article 430.7.6: evidence of blood in the arena, in order to allow the Veterinary Committee to study the issue from a horse welfare perspective.

The Veterinary Committee has been asked to propose a general rule, in consultation with the various disciplines, that is valid and applicable for all FEI disciplines. This will be discussed at the FEI Sports Forum in April 2012 as part of the Veterinary Regulations revision, for adoption by the General Assembly in 2012 and implementation on 1 January 2013.

Final 2010 FEI General Assembly Report

Excerpt from first section on Dressage:

DRESSAGE

The GA approved the Technical Committee chairman’s report which included updates on:

Education of Judges

Education is crucial for the future of the sport. Judging and assessment of judges was restructured in 2009 and both promotion and refresher courses were modified accordingly. Work on course material and a logbook (on GP level) has begun. Criteria for becoming/remaining a judge have been made stricter.

Every judge will need to do a refresher course every three years as a minimum. The judges list will be overseen and inactive judges will be removed.

FEI General Assembly Unanimously Approves 2011 Equine Prohibited Substances List

Taipei, 5 November 2010 – The FEI General Assembly has unanimously accepted the recommendations of the FEI List Group and approved the updated Equine Prohibited Substances List for the 2011 season. National Federation delegates applauded spontaneously at the announcement of the vote.

The List was put forward by the FEI List Group following a year of consultation with National Federations and experts, and after the highly successful Congress on the use of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) in the equine athlete hosted by the FEI in Lausanne, Switzerland in August.

The 2011 List respects horse welfare and ensures a level playing field.

The List does not allow the use of NSAIDs in competition. However it was agreed that the FEI should provide a greater level of guidance regarding the detection times for the post-event usage of certain NSAIDs, specifically Phenylbutazone and Flunixin, in commonly used low dosages.

Use of NSAIDs to Be Put to Vote at 2010 General Assembly

FEI_CleanSport-logo-200Lausanne (SUI), 18 December 2009 – The policy choice of whether the restricted use of a small number of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) should be permitted in competition will be put to the vote at the 2010 FEI General Assembly, following a resolution passed by the Bureau today.

In line with the Bureau’s earlier decision, the present Equine Prohibited List and its accompanying Rules and Veterinary Regulations will remain in effect until 4 April 2010. As of 5 April 2010, the FEI will implement the 20 October Prohibited Substances List, a more detailed version of the present Equine Prohibited List which received no specific objections during the four-week pre-General Assembly consultation period. The new Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations (EADCMRs) and revised Veterinary Regulations, which both received strong support at the General Assembly, will also be implemented on 5 April 2010.

In the interim, the List Group, which will be reviewed to include representatives from additional stakeholders including relevant animal welfare groups, will conduct a full review of the Equine Prohibited Substances List, with all the relevant and necessary research, and will take into account all comments from interest groups received following the 2009 General Assembly vote. In particular, the List Group will be looking at NSAIDs and will further review whether or not the use of these substances in competition, singly and at specifically prescribed levels, is a threat to horse welfare and whether or not these substances, at specific levels, are performance enhancing.
