Jane Forbes Clark to Receive Inaugural Luminary Award; Sarah B. Willeman Also to Be Honored
WELLINGTON, Fla. (Jan. 31, 2012) – The second-annual Sidelines Equestrian Tetrathlon Presented by MeadowView & The Riggio Family to benefit the Equestrian Aid Foundation will be Sunday, February 5, 2012, at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. The wild, wild west-themed evening will feature the best of Palm Beach’s restaurant fare and signature cocktails with guest chefs to tempt your palette; and silent auction items to entice your sense of adventure; with the headline of the night being world-class horsemen and women in the greatest discipline switch ever imagined.
R. Bruce Duchossois, renowned equestrian and member of the board of directors, oversee the festivities with event co-chair R. Scot Evans, the EAF’s president.
Defending Team FarmVet will take on sponsored teams MeadowView, Palm Beach Equine Clinic and newcomer Flintfields Horse Park. Success Equestrian has outfitted the dressage, show jumping and reining horses in the competition with new no-slip saddle pads.
Thank you for your support of the Equestrian Aid Foundation and its programs to help equestrians, horsemen and equine professionals who are suffering from catastrophic illnesses and injuries.
We are so grateful. Here are just a few of the people you’ve touched this year with your donations, in their own words of gratitude.
As 2011 comes to a close, I hope you’ll consider a tax-deductible donation that will improve the lives of so many in 2012.
Friends and supporters of the Equestrian Aid Foundation gathered last week at the Alltech National Horse Show in Lexington, Ky., to launch the Charlie Weaver Legacy Fund. Named for legendary horseman Charlie Weaver, who passed away in 2010 from injuries sustained in a riding accident, the endowment fund will ensure the EAF’s mission continues to help those in dire need for decades to come.
The launch party was generously sponsored by R. Bruce Duchossois, Missy Luczak Smith and Doug Smith, and friends of the EAF.
“Creating an endowment fund is necessary to ensure long-term benefits exist and our commitment to help those in need is steadfast,” said R. Scot Evans, president of the Equestrian Aid Foundation. “Charlie was admired and respected by so many and it is an honor to remember him with the Charlie Weaver Legacy Fund.
“Launching the Charlie Weaver Legacy Fund during the Alltech National Horse Show was an obvious choice, as he was the hunter rider that broke all the records at the National Horse Show held at Madison Square Garden.”

We often hear from people asking us about attending events in their area and it is challenging to be everywhere we want to be. But, you’ll find that Texas, Georgia, Nevada, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee are represented! If you’re hosting an event that you’d like to benefit EAF, let us know and we’ll help you make it a big success!
In Nov., we’ll be hosting a celebration and launch of EAF’s endowment program, which honors legendary horsemen Charlie Weaver. We’ll be at the Alltech National Horse Show in the Gracie Street Garden in Lexington, Ky., which seems natural as Charlie was so successful at the National Horse Shows of the past. Join us as we start a new chapter and be part of a legacy that continues to help those in need for years to come.
The EAF is proud to take part in two events coming in October, where we’ll be the beneficiary of silent auctions. The first is a country music party, auction and awards hosted by the Women’s Horse Industry Network. The second is a BBQ and auction held during the Southeastern Fall Classic Hunter Jumper Show’s mini prix near Atlanta. It will be exciting to share EAF’s mission and good works with new friends.
Make sure you catch the recaps of the first helmet incentive at the Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover and the 3rd Annual Play It Forward Poker Tournament at the High Roller Reining Classic. It’s always so much fun to see those highly competitive reining riders take it to the poker table! Visit our Facebook page to see some great shots from EAF Friend Alden Corrigan! This event would be impossible without her and Mandi Brumley of Brumley Management Group. Thanks to all for again putting on a terrific show and event. Special thanks to our sponsors FarmVet and an anonymous donor, and to all the wonderful companies that provided a fully stuffed goody bag for the players.

Nashville, TN – July 13, 2011 – Well known country music icon, Lacy J. Dalton, has been awarded a “Whinny” award for her efforts to save and preserve lands for wild horses. The award will be presented by the Women’s Horse Industry at their annual meeting October 6-8 at the Radisson Hotel Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dalton, whose credentials in music are substantial, has put her energy, money and name behind the Let ‘em Run Foundation.
The Let ‘em Run Foundation is working with other organizations to begin to set aside huge tracts of land for these horses, to help manage the herds and to fence off areas where they should not roam. The group’s dream is to create the “Comstock Wild Horse Sanctuary” where these horses can be preserved, protected and allowed to run free for our children and our children’s children.
“We are very pleased to award Lacy a Whinny for her efforts. More and more people are starting to understand the need to preserve areas for our wild horses and organizations like this and people like Lacy are making this happen. She is to be applauded for her efforts by everyone who cares about wild horses,” states WHIA Executive Director, Catherine Masters.
Lacy is presently recording 2 new CDs. The first, called “Songs of the New West”, is a collection of Outlaw Country songs which include many as yet unrecorded songs by Lacy and friends, along with classics like “Wild Horses” by the Rolling Stones and “Friend of the Devil” by the Grateful Dead. In addition, fueled by feelings generated by what Lacy describes as a “Thermonuclear Divorce” from longtime husband and partner Aaron Anderson, she is working on a CD called “What Don’t Kill You Makes You Strong” after its title track.
The awards will be given out on October 6 in Nashville, Tennessee at the Rhythm and Hooves benefit to save horses. The event will raise funds for three equine charities: The Cloud Foundation, The Equestrian Aid Foundation and NetPosse.com. The benefit will be a part of the WHIA’s Annual conference (October 6-8 at the Radisson Hotel Opryland) where women from around the world will gather to exchange information and business.
For additional information on the WHIA and its upcoming conference and benefit, please visit Women’s Horse Industry or call 615-730-7833.
There isn’t anything quite like being able to stand on your own two feet, but sometimes things happen that requires us to rely on our friends for support.
That’s what drives the Equestrian Aid Foundation. Helping those who need a helping hand to stand again on their own.
We have a special story of survival and hope from recipient H. Rick Albertson. Several may remember his story and I’m sure you will appreciate an update on this charismatic man. Also more exciting news with a recap of our day in the mountains.
THIS JUST IN …

June 29, 2011 – Nashville, TN – The Women’s Horse Industry is pleased to announce an awards program dedicated to the men and women in country music who have a passion for helping and saving horses.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Rhythm & Hooves benefit auction on Thursday, October 6 at the Radisson Opryland. Nominees from the country music industry will be presented awards for their efforts with horses. After the awards are presented, there will be an auction to benefit the Cloud Foundation, The Equestrian Aid Foundation and Stolen Horses/NetPosse.com. “These are great equine charities and we hope the Nashville music industry will help us raise money by providing items for the auction,” states Debby Lening, VP of the Women’s Horse Industry.
“I know that there are a lot of country music artists and other music industry executives who have a real passion for helping horses so we thought that it would make a lot of sense to identify, recognize and award them for their efforts,” states Catherine Masters, Executive Director of WHIA.
If you would like to nominate someone from the country music industry for these awards, please send an email to: whra44@yahoo.com with the nominee’s name and why they should be nominated.
Nashville, Tennessee – The Women’s Horse Industry Association will be hosting a benefit to save horses during their annual national Networking Expo October 6-8 in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition to the exhibitors and speakers from the equine world covering all types of products and services, this year there will be a benefit auction the evening October 6 at the Radisson Hotel Opryland which will benefit the Cloud Foundation, The Equestrian Aid Foundation and Net Posse.
Auction items will include autographed items from country music starts and products and services from some of the members of the WHIA. There are also plans for some “meet and greets” and live acoustic musical performances from Nashville recording artists.
The Cloud Foundation, named for the charismatic wild stallion Cloud, works to preserve wild horses on western public lands. “Mustangs are safest with their families in the wild,” states Ginger Kathrens, Emmy Award-winning producer, Executive Director of the Cloud Foundation, and producer of the acclaimed Cloud programs for PBS’s Nature series. “When they’re rounded up by the thousands, they lose what they value most — their freedom and their families. And many make the ultimate sacrifice when they are sold to slaughter. Better and kinder management must be implemented if the few thousand mustangs remaining in the wild are to survive.”
