Wellington, FL – August 18, 2009 – Equestrian announcer and course designer Skip Bailey has embarked on a bike ride across the country to raise money for Parkinson’s Disease (PD) research. Bailey is riding his bike across the United States from Oregon to Virginia in honor of his father who has PD. As a member of Team Fox, Bailey’s coast to coast trip will raise funds for The Michael J. Fox Foundation, which has funded close to $150 million in research to develop better Parkinson’s treatments.
Team Fox was launched in January 2006 as a way for The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) to “give something back” to the heroes all over the country who already had made it their personal mission to find uniquely creative and fun ways to raise funds for Parkinson’s research. Team Fox provides guidance, tools and resources for the thousands of amazing people all over the world who are walking, running, blogging, jogging, paddling, pedaling, eating, drinking, shopping and dancing to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s research.
Skip Bailey had always wanted to bike across America, and when his father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, it fueled a whole new desire to make this journey happen. After some research on the internet, and finding the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Bailey quickly became a member of Team Fox and planning for this event started. After a year of planning, training, and fundraising, Skip, his father Archer Bailey, their golden retriever mascot L-E, and his fiancée made the trip out to Astoria, Oregon, to begin the Coast to Coast adventure. On August 5, 2009, Bailey got on his bike and started pedaling, and 1,013.87 miles later, he found himself in Missoula, MT. Now at Yellow Stone National Park in Wyoming, Bailey is about a quarter of the way through the trip and has biked approximately 1,250 miles. He still has a long way to go, but with the generous help and support of so many, he will continue on through this incredible journey.
“This trip means a great deal to me and having my father here has shown me that there is so much more to life,” Bailey stated. “In regards to the sponsorship I have received, I would like to thank Pat Boyle and Showplace Productions. Pat does not only go the extra mile at his shows in St. Charles, IL, he also made it possible for me to go the extra mile for Parkinson’s Disease Research and the MJFF. I also want to thank PATCO; their generosity and sponsorship have made it possible for my father to be here on our quest towards a cure.”
Bailey averages approximately 125 miles a day and still has nearly three thousand miles to go, and hopefully, a lot more fundraising to see.
