Lausanne (SUI), 14 April 2010 – Historically, a substantial percentage of positive cases have been for banned substances. This means that, under the new Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations that came into force on 5 April 2010, those riders would have faced a possibly career-ending two-year suspension.
This fact demonstrates how important it is that all National Federations, athletes, vets and officials understand the new Rules.
To help promote the Clean Sport message, the FEI has drawn up a list of the Top 10 Things You Need to Know about Clean Sport to help everyone involved in equestrian sport abide by the rules.
THE CLEAN SPORT TOP 10
1. The Regulations are divided into two sections, with the approach to Banned Substances (doping) stricter than the previous rules while the rules governing Controlled Medication Substances are more flexible to compensate for the realities of competition.
2. Equine Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ETUEs) are no longer available for Banned (doping) Substances.
Geneva (SUI), 13 April 2010 – “If your horse is found to have a banned substance in its system, you are looking at a two-year suspension,” FEI Veterinary Director Graeme Cooke warned riders competing at this week’s Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping Final.
The warning came at the riders’ briefing before the start of five days of competition in Geneva (SUI) as part of the FEI’s drive to raise awareness of the Clean Sport Campaign.
Riders were provided with Clean Sport Information packs containing an updated Athlete’s Guide and a brochure outlining How Testing Works, both of which are also available online at www.feicleansport.org. These publications have been sent to all National Federations for distribution to stakeholders.
Lausanne (SUI), 18 January 2010 – The FEI today launched a new website dedicated to its ongoing Clean Sport Campaign. The website’s address is: www.feicleansport.org.
The website contains information about the new regulations that the FEI is implementing this year to combat doping in equestrian sports. The rule changes and other components of the Clean Sport Campaign were approved unanimously at the FEI’s General Assembly in Copenhagen last November.
“We felt it was important to have a dedicated site where people could go to get all the information they needed,” FEI Secretary General Alex McLin said. “We firmly believe this site will raise awareness of our anti-doping efforts and increase overall compliance with the new rules when they come into force on 5 April this year.”
The site is specifically tailored to the needs of athletes, vets, officials, media and others to help them understand their roles in the Clean Sport Campaign. The site also contains details about the new Equestrian Community Integrity Unit that was a key recommendation of the Joint-Commissions to help monitor corruption, identify offenders and conflicts of interest in equestrian sports, as well as safeguard horse welfare. Members of the Equestrian Community Integrity Unit will be present at major FEI events beginning in April.
The new Clean Sport website will be complemented by the FEI’s revamped website www.fei.org, which is due to be launched shortly.
Copenhagen (DEN), 19 November 2009 – In a landmark moment for equestrian sport, the FEI General Assembly today voted overwhelmingly in favour of new Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations which will ensure the welfare of the horse and guarantee a fair playing field. A series of far reaching recommendations – part of the Clean Sport Campaign led by the Ljungqvist and Stevens Commissions – were also adopted by a massive majority amongst the 105 National Federations represented in Copenhagen.
Delegates also approved in a close vote a new Prohibited Substances List itemising more than 1000 substances not allowed in competition. The adoption of the so-called “Progressive List” now permits in-competition use of a limited number of medications under strictly prescribed limits.
FEI President HRH Princess Haya thanked the delegates on behalf of the sport for their support of the Clean Sport Campaign. “This is a true landmark moment in the history of our sport,” HRH Princess Haya commented. “The overwhelming support of the National Federations for the Clean Sport Campaign is proof that we are moving in the right direction thanks to the incredible work done by the Ljungqvist and Stevens Commissions.
