Williams Duo vs. EBW Obsession

The American Quarter Horse Journal, March 31, 2010 – Robert Williams’ homebreds Mark It Famous and Jess So Sixy try to knock off the undefeated EBW Obsession in the $168,685 West Texas Derby (G3) Saturday afternoon at Sunland Park.

The Wes Giles-trained pair of Mark It Famous (Mark My Dial-A Famous New Face by Dash Ta Fame) and Jess So Sixy (Mr Jess Perry-Oh So Sixy by Six Fortunes) boast solid Grade 1 stakes credentials. Mark It Famous has qualifications in the Texas Classic Futurity and the West Texas Futurity while Jess So Sixy was an All American Futurity and Ruidoso Futurity finalist.

Mark It Famous is in sharp form after winning his only two starts this year, each at Sunland Park. He is ready to step forward in the West Texas Derby after drawing out to win his derby trial by 1 1/2 lengths in the fastest qualifying time of :18.997 for the 400 yards.

2009 AQHA Racing Champions Announcements Broadcast Live January 13

The American Quarter Horse Racing Journal, January 6, 2010 – The American Quarter Horse Association will announce the 2009 AQHA Racing Champions awards Wednesday, January 13, live at 6 p.m. CST from Heritage Place in Oklahoma City. The show will broadcast free of charge on Q-Racing Video at www.aqharacing.com.

This year’s awards are wide open, with a number of legitimate contenders in many categories.

The freshman crop yielded several superstars competing now on the ballot for championship honors. The 2-year-old colt candidates are led by Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1) winner Good Reason SA and two-time Grade 1 winner Tempting Dash, who was undefeated in four starts this year. The 2-year-old gelding division is led by Grade 1 winners Eye Got the Blues, First Klas Fred, Twin Spires and Zoomin with Ease. The fillies will provide strong competition for overall 2-year-old honors, led by All American Futurity (G1) winner Runnning Brook Gal. Mine That Bird Arrives to Lead the All American Futurity Post Parade

The American Quarter Horse Racing Journal, September 3, 2009 – Tracking the connections between Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird (TB) and horses qualified for this weekend’s All American Futurity and Derby (G1) is like a game of “six degrees of separation.”

The All American Futurity – first run in 1959; the world’s first million-dollar race for any breed in 1978 – is to American Quarter Horse racing what the Kentucky Derby is to Thoroughbred racing.

New Mexico-based Chip Woolley is the famous trainer of Mine That Bird, whose owners are Mark Allen’s Double Eagle Ranch and Dr. Leonard Blach’s Buena Suerte Equine of Roswell, New Mexico. Double Eagle Ranch also owns Louisianafeature One, who was qualified to Sunday’s $624,784 All American Derby (G1) by Chip’s brother, Bill. Bill took over training Louisianafeature One back in April when Chip started out on his famous Kentucky Derby road trip with Mine That Bird.
