Lexington, KY – The sixth annual George H. Morris Horsemastership Training Session presented by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) will take place January 3-7, 2012, at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, FL. An opportunity not to be missed, Morris, the legendary horseman and Chef d’Equipe of the U.S. Show Jumping Team, will again lead top young riders in a comprehensive program including mounted sessions, with other experts teaching stable management, veterinary care and nutrition. Riders will assume sole responsibility for their horses during the Training Session, the goal being to develop a pipeline of young “horsemasters” for future U.S. Equestrian Teams. The invitation system for the participants will be announced in September, but auditing of the mounted and educational sessions is free and open to the public; however, a donation to The USET Foundation will be greatly appreciated. Photo USEF Archives Lexington, KY – Dressage riders on the West coast had their opportunity to work with USEF Technical Advisor Anne Gribbons in the first USEF Observation Session held in California in 2011 on April 5 and 6. Steffen and Shannon Peters kindly hosted the session at their Arroyo Del Mar training facility in San Diego, CA. Over two days, Gribbons worked with each combination individually, fine tuning movements with the veteran pairs and introducing new training techniques to the up-and-coming riders. The following combinations were invited to participate: Steffen Peters with Ravel and Weltino’s Magic, Shannon Peters with Flor de Selva and Odyssey, Kim McGrath on Winslow, Cyndi Jackson on Strauss, David Blake with Catapult, Mette Rosencrantz with both Finally and Taison, Kathleen Raine on Breanna, Alisa Wilson riding Weltclassiker and Guenter Seidel with both U II and Sundayboy. Cyndi Jackson traveled from her home base in Glendale, AZ with Nikki Sochi-Flach’s Strauss, currently campaigning at the Prix St. Georges level. “I thoroughly enjoyed my sessions with Anne, having both a trainer’s perspective combined with the eye of an international judge was extremely helpful,” said Jackson. “She gave us some good exercises for getting more air time in my one tempis and in helping me get Strauss’ piaffe more on the spot.” Summer Horsepacking Adventures with UC Davis Extension

Mountain Horsemanship: Veterinary Care and Horsepacking in the Wilderness 
This deluxe pack trip covers the essentials of horsepacking in the wilderness — with the Golden Trout Wilderness of the high Sierra as your laboratory. The instructor will discuss equipment, emergency veterinary care, feeding and managing livestock in the backcountry. Past participants have acclaimed it as an outstanding adventure. Lecture and laboratory topics include: wilderness conduct of people; trail riding safety and horse equipment; methods of feeding livestock in the backcountry; management of livestock; preventative medicine; evaluating the normal horse; treating a hurt or sick horse in the wilderness; packing equipment, fitting saddles, making loads, hitches and leading strings of mules; veterinary skills including physical examination, floating teeth, IM IV injections, applying wraps, animal restraint and aging horses; and shoeing. Czerny) Wellington, FL (January 18, 2011) – Olympic Dressage rider Dottie Morkis, who in 1976 anchored the Olympic U.S. Dressage team to help the Americans win the bronze medal, is in Wellington, Florida for the winter dressage circuit and is accepting new students and teaching clinics. During the Olympics, Morkis also placed fifth in the Grand Prix Special and will go down in history as the first American to earn that accomplishment. While Morkis looks back fondly on her Olympic days, her list of accomplishments stretches far beyond her bronze medal. Morkis is a Pan Am Gold and Bronze medalist, has been in the winner’s circle multiple times at prestigious shows such as Devon and Washington International, coached the Gold Medal Paralympics Team in Atlanta, has shown horses to the USDF Horse of the Year title, served 12 years on the Athlete Advisory Committee as the equestrian representative to the U.S. Olympic Committee, twice won Team Golds at the Olympic Festival, was reserve rider for the World Cup and was long listed for the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. “Looking back at my career I feel very fortunate,” Morkis said. “In addition to competing and traveling around the world, I have been coming to Wellington every winter for the past 24 years and always enjoy it. I love to ride and compete, but I also love to teach. Wellington, FL – January 11, 2011 – Saturday, January 8, 2011 marked the final day of the weeklong George Morris Horsemastership Clinic held at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) where 12 of the country’s top young riders showcased their skills. At the completion of the final day, all of the participants had the opportunity to enjoy luncheon hosted by the United States Equestrian Team Foundation at the International Club at PBIEC. Participants in the clinic included: Throughout the week, riders completed five mounted sessions with Morris, and were also treated to 10 other presentations from various specialists ranging from United States Team Veterinarian Tim Ober to Olympians McLain Ward, Laura Kraut, Anne Kursinski and Beezie Madden, as well as ASPCA Ambassadors Georgina Bloomberg and Brianne Goutal. Buffalo, NY – November 17, 2010 – The Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center (BTRC) has been a busy facility over the last few weeks and most recently concluded its twelfth annual George Morris Clinic. Next on the calendar for BTRC is the 2010 USHJA Emerging Athletes National Training Session, which will be held November 19-21, 2010. The BTRC is the only indoor riding facility located in the city of Buffalo. It has been the site of a therapeutic riding program for 10 years, and all proceeds from the weekend will benefit the BTRC and its programs. Auditors are invited to take part in the educational weekend, and seats are still available. The weekend will feature three days of intense training with Olympic Gold Medalist Peter Wylde, Veterinarians Dr. Midge Leitch and Dr. Kit Miller, Stable Managers Jennifer Alfano and Eliza Shuford, and Horsemanship seminars with Mindy Bower. ‘R’ rated judge and former US Show Jumping team member, Chrystine Tauber, will design courses while Olympic Gold Medalist and Emerging Athletes Program (EAP) Co-Chair, Melanie Smith Taylor, will judge the 12 finalists.
