Arenus Riders Cesar Parra and Kassandra Barteau Take Top Honors at Gladstone Dressage Festival of Champions

(Photo courtesy of JRPR) Gladstone, NJ (August 26, 2010) – Cesar Parra and Kassandra Barteau took top honors in the National Intermediaire I Championship at the Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Dressage Festival of Champions, with Parra earning the Championship and Barteau the Reserve Championship. It was an emotional experience for Parra, a native of Colombia, who recently became an American citizen and rode for the USA at Gladstone for the first time. “I have been coaching at Gladstone for the last 10 years but wasn’t able to show. Now as an American, I am proud to show here. The footing is great and the facilities are top notch and I am very happy because it was probably the best Intermediaire I test I have ever ridden,” Parra said. “Olympia was at the top of his game and during the Intermediaire I test he was the horse I like to ride. I came up the hill and he felt so good. I almost passed out when I came out of the ring!” Parra’s enthusiasm was evident to all who witnessed the winning ride. Parra said his goal in the Intermediaire I class was to get ahead of Barteau, who had ridden ahead of him, and he was thrilled he won the class with a score of 73.263%. “Now I want to bubble wrap Olympia and save him for the Pan American Games,” Parra said, adding that he has had 15 CDI wins and is looking forward to what the gelding will do next. Barteau, an Arenus Ambassador, won the Prix St. Georges class, the first leg of the Intermediaire I Championship, on the first day aboard Toscano while Parra and Olympia placed second. Parra and Barteau each had one win to their name going into the Freestyle, and with his catchy Earth, Wind and Fire songs and fluid movements, Parra won the Freestyle class and the overall Championship. Barteau finished third in the Freestyle, taking home the Reserve Championship at the National level. Barteau is the winningest young rider in United States Dressage history and a three-time USEF National Young Rider Champion. Barteau trains out of her family’s KYB Dressage facility in Maple Park, Illinois. Barteau proved at Gladstone that she is easily capable of competing against the professionals, taking home second place in the Intermediaire I class on Toscano with a score of 71.105%. Toscano is owned by Kristin Cooper and shares the same sire as Olympia. “Kassie wasn’t the only Barteau in the winner’s circle in the Intermediaire I class, as her mother, Yvonne Barteau, rode GP Raymeister to third place,” said Simone Pophal, DVM, PhD, Arenus Business Manager. “I know the entire Barteau family are strong supporters of our Arenus products and everyone at Arenus wants to congratulate Cesar, Kassie and Yvonne on fantastic wins at Gladstone.
