Kelly O'Shea Duncan and her Hackney Horse, Baryshnikov, won the Intermediaire I class at the Gold Coast Dressage Association's Grand Finale I Show, held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center.

West Palm Beach, FL (April 19, 2010) – Kelly O’Shea Duncan and her Hackney Horse, Baryshnikov, brought home the blue in the FEI Intermediaire I class at the Gold Coast Dressage Association’s Grand Finale I. This wasn’t O’Shea Duncan and Baryshnikov’s first trip into the winner’s circle in the Intermediaire I class, as the pair has been consistent winners in the division throughout the winter show circuit.

Sponsored by Classic Equine Equipment, a nationally recognized leader in quality horse stall systems and stable accessories, O’Shea Duncan won a polar fleece vest from Classic Equine. “The Classic Equine stalls are so beautiful and I would love to have a barn with their stalls. It would be fantastic,” O’Shea Duncan said.

O’Shea Duncan said that during the show Baryshnikov went into the Grand Finale I class “a little up, but settled down once he got in the ring. Then he tried really hard and I am so proud of him,” she said.

European Horse Meat Imports Crumbling under Continuing Revelations

April 20, 2010 – CHICAGO (EWA) – After years of operating in the shadows, EU horse meat importers have recently been caught in the glare of a seemingly endless series of investigative stories. The most recent blow came with the release of a report issued by GAIA, a respected Belgium animal welfare organization in partnership with Animals’ Angels USA.

Aired by three major news stations, the report began with a question; “Do they [consumers] really know where it comes from?” The industry has long marketed both North American and South American horse meat as a “healthy alternative” to beef and pork. The ads and websites claim the horses were raised on pristine pastures and lived stress free lives.

The GAIA report revealed the real origin of the horses and the treatment they receive. The undercover footage followed horses from farm to slaughter plant, documenting their torment at every stage. At one point a horse jammed into an overcrowded trailer has its leg caught in the tailgate as the truck pulls away.
