The Top 10 Things You Need to Know about Clean Sport

Lausanne (SUI), 14 April 2010 – Historically, a substantial percentage of positive cases have been for banned substances. This means that, under the new Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations that came into force on 5 April 2010, those riders would have faced a possibly career-ending two-year suspension.

This fact demonstrates how important it is that all National Federations, athletes, vets and officials understand the new Rules.

To help promote the Clean Sport message, the FEI has drawn up a list of the Top 10 Things You Need to Know about Clean Sport to help everyone involved in equestrian sport abide by the rules.

THE CLEAN SPORT TOP 10

1. The Regulations are divided into two sections, with the approach to Banned Substances (doping) stricter than the previous rules while the rules governing Controlled Medication Substances are more flexible to compensate for the realities of competition.

2. Equine Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ETUEs) are no longer available for Banned (doping) Substances.

Culpeper, Virginia – April 15, 2010 – HITS Culpeper is pleased to announce that entries for its opening week of the 2010 season, the Commonwealth National, April 21-25, at HITS Commonwealth Park in Culpeper, Virginia are up over 2009 and are approaching record levels. The Commonwealth National is the first of six Culpeper horse shows and is a popular stop as equestrians migrate north after the winter circuits.  This year, riders and horses will enjoy several new property updates and amenities at HITS Culpeper.

HITS, Inc. President and CEO Tom Struzzieri has officially announced a number of property enhancements, including a brand new Grand Prix Pavilion, upgraded footing in Hunter 1, improved drainage, and cement wash racks. Struzzieri recently traveled to the show grounds in Culpeper to oversee the progress on the property updates and was pleased with how things are taking shape. “These updates are going to make a huge difference to our property in Culpeper,” said Struzzieri. “By removing the original pavilion building that area already looks remarkably more attractive. We’ve updated the wash racks and are improving the storm water drainage, which will really help to improve the back-end of the property, as well.”
