ABC-36 WTVQ to Broadcast and Sponsor 2010 International Equestrian Festival

April 15, 2010 – Lexington, KY – ABC 36 WTVQ-DT has announced a partnership with Horse Capital Productions to be the Official Local Media Partner for the 2010 International Equestrian Festival (IEF), held this fall in the city’s centrally-located convention center beside the iconic Rupp Arena. The sponsorship by ABC-36 of the multi-million dollar festival comes in anticipation of the television network’s new schedule to include equestrian-related news and special interest programming.

“This is such a synergistic sponsorship for our equestrian festival,” commented Anne Buchanan, CEO of Horse Capital Productions. “ABC-36 has always done a tremendous job of providing full coverage of our area’s events and their interest in highlighting the horse industry to the general public made this a natural fit for us.”

“The entertainment and international line-up that the IEF will be showcasing is very exciting,” said Rebecca Price, ABC-36 Marketing Director. “We will be there in full force with a whole new way to get the community involved on screen and in person. This event exemplifies the innovativeness and forward-thinking approach to building excitement around horse sports and that is paramount in our community, especially during 2010. It’s great to know that the IEF is an event for our audience too.”

In the Spirit of Compromise: Equine Advocate Drops Lawsuit

April 15, 2010 – CHICAGO (EWA) – Laura Leigh, artist, wild horse advocate and Subject Matter Expert for the Equine Welfare Alliance, in a gesture of support for the concept of cooperative dialogue, dropped her lawsuit against Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) last week.

“Conversations with both Gene Seidlitz of the BLM’s Winnemucca district and Paul Steblein of Sheldon NWR lead me to the decision to show my support for the type of dialogue possible here and drop my legal action. I do however expect to have continued contact with both of these individuals as this process moves from theory to reality.”

Leigh’s attorney, Gordan Cowan of Reno, Nevada, said, “This was a ‘feel good,’ heartfelt issue that made me proud to have followed it through on a pro bono basis.”

Easy Dashin Sixes Rockets to No. 2 in Poll

World Champion Freaky Tops AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Poll

The American Quarter Horse Journal, April 14, 2010 – With a track record-setting win in the March 27 $100,000 Leo Stakes (G1) at Remington Park, Easy Dashin Sixes made a major splash in the season’s first update to the AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Poll for 3-year-olds and older. The half-length victory over Separate Bet launched the Texas-bred 5-year-old into this week’s No. 2 spot. He trails only unanimous No. 1-ranked Freaky, whose Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Championship victory earlier this year figures to be his only start until he preps for a late-season run at a repeat in the Grade 1 Champion of Champions.

Separate Bet, second in the Leo Stakes as the heavy favorite, moves down one slot to No. 3 this week from his previous ranking in the 2010 preseason poll. Meanwhile, Headturner debuts in the poll at No. 5, following his April 9 score in the Grade 2 El Primero Del Año Derby after winning the Los Alamitos Winter Derby (G1) earlier this spring.

Wellington Welcomes Gay Polo, but Not Gay Rights

Thursday, April 15th, 2010 | Contributors - Press, PBCHRC, Polo, Riding Disciplines | Comments

April 15, 2010 – (Wellington, Florida) – On April 3, the Village of Wellington played host to the world’s first international gay polo tournament.  Two days later, Village Attorney Jeffrey Kurtz rejected a local gay rights group’s request to revise the Village’s employment policies to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

“The people who bring their horses — and their dollars — to Wellington are extremely gay friendly,” said Rand Hoch, President of the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council.

The Council is a local non-profit organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

“Gay men and lesbians have long been a very visible part of Wellington’s equestrian community,” said Jamie Todd Foreman, an openly gay attorney who lives in nearby Lake Worth.

How to Fix a Head Tilt, by Jane Savoie

When your horse tilts his head, it’s often a sign that he isn’t “through”. So, if you’re tracking right and his right ear is lower than his left ear with his mouth going to the left, you’ll need to supple the left side of his poll. (Supple the right side of his poll if he tilts the other way with his left ear lower.)

Remember, you can’t use your connecting aids successfully if he’s locked anywhere including the poll. (Suppleness comes before Connection on the training scale.)

Loxahatchee, FL (April 15, 2010) – Dr. Cesar Parra and his students at Piaffe-Performance wrapped up a successful winter dressage season with an award-winning finish at the Dressage at Equestrian Estates show. Parra, a successful international competitor and well-known trainer who specializes in classical dressage methods, credited teamwork for the success of the Piaffe-Performance riders.

“It was a very good show and a very good season. I believe in teamwork and everyone at Piaffe-Performance worked together this season to make it a huge success. The Dressage at Equestrian Estates was a great way to end the season,” Parra said. “I was pleased with Grandioso, who won the Intermediaire II class. We have high hopes and expectations for this horse and I believe he is a great up-and-coming Grand Prix horse.”

Grandioso, a nine-year-old Wesfalen purchased for Parra by Michael Davis, won the class while Parra’s student Michael Schondel came in second on Silver Label in the Intermediaire II. “Michael also showed Silver Label in the Grand Prix. It was only the second time for Michael and Silver Label and they did really well. I give Michael a lot of credit because he has brought the horse up from a five-year-old,” Parra said. “I have had a lot of students this season really enjoying themselves, progressing and accomplishing their dreams, and for me that is a wonderful thing to watch.”

Banas, who trains with Kathy Priest and Sue Jaccoma, has been competing Harmony’s FX, an eight-year-old Hanoverian gelding, at 3rd level. “I’m hoping to get him through 3rd level this year,” Banas said, adding with a laugh that they will move up “depending on whether or not Harmony wants to.” “I also have a 16-year-old Swedish Warmblood named Chevrolet that I have competed up to 4th level.”
