Repole, NYRA Donate to Retirement Causes
In order to raise awareness for and benefit horse rescue and retirement organizations, Mike Repole, owner of Repole Stable, and The New York Racing Association are donating a total of $30,000 to Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, and the Exceller Fund on Wood Memorial Day, April 3 at Aqueduct Racetrack in addition to an on-track retirement ceremony for Cool N Collective.

Nascar Driver Supports Thoroughbred Rescue
Tony Stewart, owner and driver of the No. 14 Old Spice/Office Depot Chevrolet Impala in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and owner of Stewart/Haas Racing, is also a winner on a different kind of track. In 2010, the Tony Stewart Foundation awarded $20,000 to Friends of Ferdinand Inc. in order to support the retirement and adoption of Thoroughbred racehorses.

Unwanted Horses an Urgent Issue, Survey Says
What to do with unwanted horses is the most urgent issue facing the equine industry, according to responses from a recent survey. The findings are part of the American Horse Publications nationwide online survey, conducted from Oct. 15, 2009, to Jan. 31, 2010, which resulted in more than 11,000 responses. The survey is the largest ever of its kind for the United States.

ASPCA Announces $200,000 Grant for San Diego County Horses
The ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) announced on Monday the awarding of a $200,000 grant–to be distributed over the next two years–to the San Diego Equine Safety Net Coalition for support of San Diego County’s abandoned and neglected horses. The funds were made possible by the estate of Edith Hakes, a long-time resident of San Diego. An initial amount of $50,000 has been distributed.
