Outrage over Wild Horse and Burro Removals Crosses the Pond

CHICAGO, (EWA) – The outrage over the round-up of America’s wild horses and burros has spread internationally. Groups in the United Kingdom will be holding a rally in front of the American Embassy in London on March 25. On the same day, Americans will be holding a rally across from the White House in Lafayette Park that will conclude in front of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) offices.

The London Protest was organized by Jane Bravery, Mary Alice Pollard of Cornwall’s Voice for Animals (CVFA), Maria Daines, singer/songwriter and board member of Saving America’s Horses and international actress, Melita Morgan. The rally is cosponsored by the Equine Welfare Alliance (EWA) and The Cloud Foundation (TCF).

Maria Daines commented, “If we do not stand as one on issues that affect all species whose purpose is to live wild and free, we cannot expect our own species to evolve in a compassionate and considerate way towards each other. Wild horses deserve their time and place, they deserve our protection and we must exist peacefully with these glorious creatures or risk losing them forever.”

Mary Alice Pollard adds, “Cornwalls Voice for Animals represents seven thousand supporters worldwide and stands united in ending wild horse round-ups and seeing the wild horses being born free and living wild and free.”

Wellington, FL – March 13, 2010 – Children’s jumpers kicked off their weekend of competition today at the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). Thirty-two entries went to post today in the Equine Tack and Nutritional Children’s 14-17 Jumpers, and Colby Russey and her mount Crouching Tiger topped the leader board in today’s jump-off class.

Russey, of Cooper City, FL, has been riding Crouching Tiger for two years and just began competing in the Children’s Jumper ranks this year.  Russey has had the ride on “Tiger,” a 15-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, for two years, and has developed quite a partnership with him.

The first round in today’s class consisted of nine numbered obstacles, and the most challenging part of the course was a short approach to an oxer followed by a bending line to a pair of double verticals.  Several riders also had trouble with the last fence in the first round, which was a skinny vertical by the in-gate.

Olympian Margie Engle Champions Step by Step to Win Money for Haitian Relief

Riders to Champion a Good Cause & Vie for $400,000 in Prize Money in Great Charity Show Jumping Challenge

WELLINGTON, FL – March 12, 2010 – International show jumping veterans, top junior riders, and leading amateur owner competitors will unite and champion a good cause during the inaugural Great Charity Show Jumping Challenge on March 20, 2010.  The Step by Step Foundation (www.stepbystepfoundation.com) will be among the 24 aid organizations with Palm Beach County ties that will split the $400,000 in prize money offered during this unique show jumping event that will take place at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Florida beginning at 6 PM. Supporters can cheer on their favorite show jumping team competing in Great Charity Challenge. Depending on how their team places, Step by Step Foundation will receive between $8,000 and $150,000 that will go towards Haitian relief.

Once again, Olympic medalist Margie Engle will join forces with Liliane Stransky, the founder of Step by Step (www.stepbystepfoundation.com), to help children around the world. The dynamic duo has already proven to be a winning combination at WEF. They raised more than $65,000 for Haitian relief funds at the All In for Charity poker tournament and benefit dinner in January. “This is yet another opportunity for supporters to come join together at the horse show, have fun and at the same time, help Haiti,” enthused Stransky, who is building a school in Haiti, has hosted numerous benefits, coordinated donation efforts, and delivered much needed supplies to the devastated country. “They still needs so much help! We are doing everything we can to assist in their recovery, but every bit helps.”

Wellington, FL (March 12, 2010) – Thanks to a fast jump-off and a last minute decision to ride the course differently, Tracey Mack-Gorin and Denmark won the $10,000 Adult Amateur 18-35 Jumper Classic during the eighth week of the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival. Sponsored by Classic Equine Equipment, a nationally recognized leader in quality horse stall systems and stable accessories, Mack-Gorin won a polar fleece vest from Classic Equine.

“The jump-off was fun and I really love Denmark,” Mack-Gorin said, adding that she is leasing him for the winter circuit from Grace Rogers. “I want to thank Classic Equine Equipment for sponsoring the class. I won the vest from Classic Equine which I love, but my dad took it and has been wearing it all week – he obviously loves it too!”

Twenty-two year old Mack-Gorin, from Mystic, Connecticut, rides with Missy Clark at North Run. “I have been riding with her for the last seven years and before that I rode with her husband John Brennan,” Mack-Gorin said. “I show in several different divisions but the adult jumpers is my favorite. I will be going to law school in the fall, but I will continue to show in the adult jumpers.”
