Wellington, FL – March 10, 2010 – The 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) was full of top competition during week eight, held March 3-7, 2010. The week featured the USEF World Equestrian Games (WEG) Show Jumping Trials 3, 4, and 5, presented by Fidelity Investments, and the $75,000 FEI Nations Cup, presented by CN, along with a full schedule of hunter, jumper, and equitation classes. The week eight title sponsor was CN.

The $150,000 CN U.S. Open Grand Prix, CSIO 4* was Sunday’s highlight event and Laura Kraut (USA) with Cedric, owned by Happy Hill Farm, were victorious. Second place went to Beezie Madden (USA) and Danny Boy, owned by Abigail Wexner, while Nicole Shahinian-Simpson was third with Tristan, owned by Ilan Ferder and Tal Milstein. Nearly 3,000 spectators turned out to watch the grand prix, which also incorporated the USEF WEG Trial #5.
Kassie Barteau and Aramo won the Highlife Cup at the 2010 Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI.
West Palm Beach, FL (March 10, 2010) – Kassie Barteau and Aramo, a five-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Leslie Valente, scored a 75.714% at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI to ride away with the Highlife Cup. The prestigious Highlife Cup, sponsored by Highlife Farms, is awarded to the highest scoring Warmblood at the show, and Barteau and Aramo earned their top score in the Training Level Test 2 Open class.
“Aramo is big and brilliant,” Barteau said, adding that she has just been getting to know him over the last few weeks. “He was really on my aids and really well behaved. I was very pleased.”
Barteau, who was one of the top Young Riders in the United States during her Young Rider career, said the 17.2 hand bay gelding can sometimes be a handful, but she was pleased that during the Palm Beach Dressage Derby he was well behaved and “kept all four feet on the ground.”
Wellington, Florida, March 10, 2010 – The outpouring of love and support continue to gain momentum as the equestrian world reaches out with their prayers, cards, messages and healing thoughts to Dressage Olympian Courtney King Dye who remains in a coma as a result of a riding accident March 3 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in North Palm Beach.
Wednesday night, March 10 at the Player’s Club Restaurant, 13410 South Shore Blvd, Wellington, Florida at 7PM, the popular Dressage under the Stars Series will have the last Freestyle event before the Finale next week. It will be a massive effort to bring together the large equestrian community of Wellington in support of the emergency funding needed for Courtney.
Carol Cohen of Two Swans Farm and Jim Welsh of Elite Horse Transport have started off fundraising efforts with $3500 combined, and Cohen will match the $500 check given to the winner of the evening’s event. Cohen has green ribbons, the symbol for brain injury, to raise contributions. Morgan Heinrichs, Courtney’s working student, will be riding a freestyle in her honor. “We are trying to get as many people to come to the event as possible,” said Carol, who has been involved with the series since its inception.
