New Grand Prix Winners Emerge, 50 Show in the Devoucoux Derby, While the Social Scene Is Buzzing in Ocala
OCALA, FL (February 24, 2010) — The second week of show jumping at HITS Ocala wrapped on Sunday with warm weather and exciting action, proving that the ‘Horse Capital of the World’ is also the ‘Land of Opportunity,’ as the Grand Prix Arena saw some new faces emerge in the winner’s circle.
In Thursday’s $25,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, Lacy Morrone-Cramer from Pittstown, New Jersey earned her first Grand Prix win of the season riding Ulysses Van De Krekebeke, owned by Equi Sport, LLC. The duo bested 36 pairs and, according to Morrone-Cramer, it was all thanks to a last second decision. “From the triple bar to the triple combination everyone was jumping the line in the eight,” explained Morrone-Cramer. “When I was out there it was a last second decision, but I decided to jump it in the seven and it worked!”
Sunday’s $50,000 Charles Owen Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, marked the first-time victory for Grand Prix newcomer Full A’s, shown by Matthais Hollberg of Apex, North Carolina. Owned by APEX Equestrian Center, it was only the fifth Grand Prix the horse has ever competed in. “He’s won a few ribbons but this was the first time he’s ever jumped clean in a Grand Prix, let alone win,” exclaimed a very happy Hollberg after the class.
Finishing alongside Hollberg in the top three were Hugh Graham on Executive Privilege 3E and Kristen VanderVeen on Bull Run’s La Bamba.
Wellington, FL – February 23, 2010 – Kelsey Thatcher had an exciting week in Wellington as she rode several of her top horses in the Winter Equestrian Festival’s World Champion Hunter Rider (WCHR) week. Thatcher earned the opportunity to compete in the WCHR Hunter Spectacular on Saturday night after earning the Small Junior Hunter 16-17 championship with Sublime. The pair received scores of 90 and 88 in the division’s final two classes over fences.
Sublime is a handsome bay gelding owned by Jessica Springsteen and her family’s Stone Hill Farm of Colts Neck, NJ. Thatcher is leasing Sublime for the WEF circuit and has already had great success. The pair earned a respectable fifth place ribbon on the first day this week with a score of 84, and then on day two they blew away the competition. Thatcher received her first ever score of 90 in the first class over fences and another high score of 88 in the stake class. They were presented with the championship tricolor for the division and Sublime was dressed in the special WCHR championship cooler.
Thatcher described Sublime as a “been there, done that kind of guy” and was very excited to receive her first score of 90. “They were normal hunter courses but they had their tricks because the course designer definitely had some handier hunter jumps in there and the lines were very forward, so that got a lot of people,” she said. “He is pretty point and shoot and he gives you a great jump, so he did really well out there.” Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=10357
