Wellington, FL – February 21, 2010 – Charles Jacobs (USA) of Boston, MA, captured the top prize in the $50,000 CN Palm Beach Jumping Derby on Quidditch II, owned by Deeridge Farm of Wellington, FL. They sped to the win over Shane Sweetnam (IRL) on Spy Coast Farm LLC’s Little Emir and Brianne Goutal (USA) on Nice de Prissey, owned by Cloverleaf Farm.

The $50,000 CN Palm Beach Jumping Derby was the highlight jumper event of week six, the Bainbridge AHJF/WCHR Hunter Spectacular week, of the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival.

The 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival has 12 weeks of competition that conclude on April 4, 2010, and they will be awarding almost $6 million in prize money through the circuit.

The beautiful derby field course was at The Stadium, part of the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. The course was built and designed by Richard Jeffrey of England. It had 20 numbered obstacles and 25 jumping efforts over the rolling track, and it proved to be a tough, but exciting, challenge for the show jumpers. Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue Needs Your Help

Wellington, FL – Over the past 8 years Pure Thoughts Inc. has helped over 1400 horses. These years were spent not only helping the horses but also learning and growing to ensure the rescue is manageable, functional and a place the community will embrace. The horses that arrive at Pure Thoughts are rehabbed and retrained. This involves a longer process but it insures that the adopter is adopting a horse that is healthy, sound, behavior evaluated and he/she is a safe riding horse. Brad Gaver, co-founder of Pure Thoughts Inc., stated, “We cannot train a horse for jumping, dressage, western pleasure, etc. We train for life so the horse can go on and do what his new owner would like, whether it is trail riding, working with kids, showing in an equine sport, etc.”

Pure Thoughts is an all-volunteer 501c3 organization. Brad Gaver has his Masters Degree in Education specializing in special needs with over 25 years experience with equines including becoming a farrier at the age of 19. Brad is the farrier, trainer, manages the volunteer program and the horses care. Jennifer Swanson, Co-Founder, has a business background handles the administration, writing, website and individual equine nutrition. The volunteer program is very large, volunteers assist with everything from office work, e.g. thank yous, flyers etc., grooming, cleaning, ground work, riding and of course much needed TLC, however they would like to help.

Over the past year, in addition to the horses already at Pure Thoughts, the rescue has taken in 30 horses from abuse, abandonment, neglect and surrender, 52 Thoroughbreds whose racing career has ended and may have ended up at slaughter and have assisted 10 families in keeping their horse through difficult economic situations that may have arisen. TOTILAS IS UNTOUCHABLE AGAIN AT NEUMUNSTER

Neumunster (GER), 21 February 2010 – Edward Gal’s sensational run in the 2009/2010 FEI World Cup Dressage series continued at Neumunster in Germany today where he recorded his third victory with Moorlands Totilas as they continue to take this sport by storm.  Wherever he goes, the record-breaking 10 year old black stallion lights a fire of excitement, and the capacity crowd at the German venue could hardly contain their excitement when witnessing him in action on their home ground.  Neumunster is in the heart of Holsteiner country, and jumping is very much the local passion.  But Totilas carries a spell-binding quality that captures the heart of every horse-lover, and the roar of approval from the 4,800 spectators in the Holstenhallen as this special horse stole the limelight once again told the full story.

Gal’s Dutch team-mate, Adelinde Cornelisen, finished second with Jerich Parzival and Germany’s Isabell Werth slotted into third with Warum Nicht FRH ahead of Denmark’s Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein in fourth – exactly the same positions they had all filled in Saturday’s qualifying Grand Prix. Wilhelm Genn Big Winner at Gulf Coast Winter Classics – Week II

GULFPORT, MS — FEB. 21, 2010 — Lebanon, OH based Wilhelm Genn had a stellar second week at the 2010 Gulf Coast Winter Classics with victories in both Thursday’s $5,000 Welcome Open Jumper Stake aboard Happy Z and Sunday’s $25,000 Gulf Coast Grand Prix with Laura Ryan-Barnaclo’s Chantal.

Deciding the path this week’s jumpers would take was one of the sport’s most revered course designers, Michel Vaillancourt, who began testing their limits on Thursday with a curvy 15 effort layout in the $5,000 Welcome Open Jumper Stake presented by The Farm House. With an 85 second allowance and nothing “obvious” set as tricky looking, several riders wondered if it was just too good to be true given Vaillancourt’s reputation for hidden challenges. “I thought that maybe it was a little easy, but then with Michel you never know, he’s such a good experienced course designer. He can make it look easy and still only have 10% clean,” said Genn.

From the field of 24 only 9 made it to the jump off round. “A couple of the verticals were airy and needed to be ridden careful versus scopey,” Genn discovered was Vaillancourt’s contest. He and partner Happy Z, the coming 12-year-old chestnut fireball mare he owns and trains, blazed past all jump-off contenders with a clear go in the 8 obstacle final round that tested riders with rollback turns and a speedy pace. Their finishing time was a fast 39.200 – well below the allotted 52 seconds. “It was a good jump off for my horses, because you had a little bit of a gallop, tight turns, and more gallop. Thankfully my horses are pretty handy now,” a smiling Genn said. Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=10335

Carson City, Nevada – February 22, 2010 – The Franktown Meadows Hunter Derby is pleased to announce $25,000 of prize money. Comparable to hunter derbies in the east, this event will be the first west coast derby to supply such substantial prize money.  The Franktown Meadows Hunter Derby (FM Hunter Derby) will take place at the Franktown Meadows Equestrian Facility in Carson City, NV, and will mark the commencement of the first standalone high caliber west coast hunter derby competition.  On September 19, 2010, the FM Hunter Derby will open their derby field to top competitors from around the country.

The FM Hunter Derby will be a member event of the Chronicle of the Horse/United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) International Hunter Derby. The purpose of the hunter derbies is two-fold.  According to the USHJA, the derbies are in existence to increase the appreciation of the hunter world, and to increase sponsorship and spectators who invest and attend this event.  The second reason for these events are because the USHJA wants to bring the hunter sport back to it’s roots by adding elements such as natural fences, stone walls, and interactive gates set out on land that inspired riders to gallop their horses across fields and over fences during a hunt.  Aimee Lafayette, family member of The MacLeans who own Franktown Meadows commented about the prize money, “We have such a beautiful facility to host this event and we want to share that with everyone.  Located on the foothills of the Sierra Mountain Range, we have always been very lucky to have such breathtaking grounds.  The riders and participants will feel the same as the riders that originated our sport felt each time they embarked on a hunt.  Our main goal in offering a great amount of prize money is to align our goals with those of USHJA.  We want more spectators, media, and sponsors to increase their appreciation and adulation for the hunter sport.  We have a strong passion towards this sport and are so happy to share our facility with everyone.”

Wellington, FL (February 22, 2010) – Alissa Kinsey and her 13-year-old Hanoverian mare, Grisset, are dominating the $10,000 Adult Amateur 18-35 Jumper Classic, winning the title for the fourth time at the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival. Sponsored by Classic Equine Equipment, a nationally recognized leader in quality horse stall systems and stable accessories, Kinsey and Grisset’s fourth win came during the fifth week of WEF.

In addition to their earlier wins this circuit, Kinsey and Grisset were the Adult Amateur Jumper 18-35 Winter Equestrian Festival Circuit Champions for the past two years. “I am showing other horses in the same division, but Grisset and I are definitely back to defend our title,” Kinsey said. “We are trying to win Circuit Champion again so I will compete her throughout the whole circuit.”

Adam Busse, owner of Classic Equine, said he is well aware of the dedication it takes to be the best, and he applauded Alissa and Grisset for their hard work. “It is an impressive feat to be the Circuit Champion at WEF and Alissa and Grisset have done it two years in a row in the Adult Amateur 18-35 Jumpers. It looks like they are taking a third run at the title and we wish them luck and hope they succeed.”
