The American Quarter Horse Racing Journal, February 11, 2010 – The super-consistent Slinkys Fortune, who has finished in the top two in each of his 13 starts, heads a full field of eight Louisiana-bred distance specialists over 870 yards in the $40,000 Magnolia Stakes on Saturday afternoon at Louisiana Downs.
The Henry Padgett-owned and -trained Slinkys Fortune (Dashs Slinky-Chasing A Fortune by Six Fortunes) did not begin his racing career until 2008 as a 4-year-old, but he has made up for lost time by earning $152,765 while never finishing below second place.
Slinkys Fortune returned after a three-month rest in the 870-yard Marathon Stakes on January 23 at Louisiana Downs. He made an impressive move going around his rivals to win by 2 lengths as the 13-10 favorite. That victory came against open company, so facing state-breds in the Magnolia Stakes may be a class drop for the impressive gelding. “We earned a 76.842 in the FEI Prix St. Georges Open and I am just ecstatic about it,” said Blitz, who raised and trained the 17.3 hand Paragon from the time he was a foal. “I am pretty happy with my guy. This was only his second time in the show ring.”

Wellington, FL – February 20, 2010 – Hunter action continued on Friday at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center as Junior and Amateur hunters vied for the top prizes in their divisions. Ten more spots were secured for this week’s featured class, the WCHR/AHJF Hunter Spectacular, which will take place Saturday, February 20th at 7 p.m. at the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival.
In the Amateur-Owner 18-35 Hunters, Laura Sexton rode her horse Zoom to the championship honors. Sexton enjoyed riding in the International Arena on Thursday, and noted, “This is my favorite week of the year. I always love going in that field and galloping around. It’s so much fun, especially on a horse that you can just gallop and that backs off the jumps.”
Sexton bought Zoom about a year and half ago from Jennifer Waxman, and must commute from New York on weekends to compete in the Amateur-Owners. Sexton is originally from Greenwich, CT, but is currently attending the Bank Street College of Education in New York City.
Sexton plans to show Zoom, an eight-year-old Hanoverian gelding, tonight under the lights in the WCHR/AHJF Hunter Spectacular. “I can’t wait to go under the lights. I have all the confidence in him, which makes a big difference,” Sexton beamed. Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=10327
