Wellington, FL – February 15, 2010 – The project known as Wellington Training Club or Section 34 in the Wellington equestrian preserve district appears to have taken a turn for the positive after it has been learned that Hines (www.Hines.com), a major private international real estate firm, is under contract to purchase the property. The Nassau Tribune reported recently that CLICO Bahamas, an insurance company based in Nassau, became insolvent and was ordered by the Bahamas Government to liquidate its assets which include Section 34. Initial construction on the project, including roads, utilities and storm water lakes was largely completed in 2006 before CLICO was ordered into liquidation. From discussions with local broker, Diane Jenkins of Jenkins Realty, Inc., who has teamed up with Hines, a Founder Lot presale program to restart the community is underway.
We have been able to confirm that Hines’ team will include the collaboration and sponsorship of two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Beezie Madden and husband John Madden. The preliminary plans show that the 525-acre community is planned for a maximum of 80 farms and a one of a kind 60 acre central amenity that will be available for each farm owner’s use, including a 70,000 square foot covered arena, multiple all-weather rings and multi-purpose grass fields. The plan also includes a network of several miles of bridle fairways and numerous open riding parks are spaced throughout the community that connects each farm to the central amenity. February 15, 2010 – CHICAGO, (EWA) – Wild horse and burro advocates from across the country plan on greeting President Obama on February 18 in Las Vegas with a protest of the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) mismanagement of the Wild Horse and Burro program and total disregard of the 1971 law protecting the wild horses and burros on their public lands.
The highly criticized Calico Complex round-up in Nevada that concluded on February 5 resulted in the death of 48 wild horses and the loss of 30 unborn foals. The death toll continues to climb from injuries resulting from the round-up as well as health issues from diets, such as Alfalfa hay that wreaks havoc on wild horses unaccustomed to a rich diet after feeding a lifetime on desert grasses.
The Calico round-up is being called one of the most deadly round-ups in history. Video footage shows foals being chased by a Cattoor helicopter as they tried to keep up with their mothers fleeing during the stampede. Two baby horses literally later had their hooves fall off, dying a dreadfully painful death at BLM’s hands. The horses were run over miles of rough terrain in the dead of winter. It is estimated by the American Cancer Society that in 2009 about 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer were diagnosed among women in the United States and at this time there are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Since its inception, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation has raised over $250 million across the globe to fund research.
In a sport with many women, the equestrian industry has come together to support the BCRF through the Challenge of the America’s one-of-a-kind event. Returning for her fourth year as a COTA competitor, Canadian dressage rider Shannon Dueck will be participating as part of the International Quadrille Team – Team International The Seley Parker Group of Merrill Lynch.
