The Jacksonville Mid Winter Horse show went great with chamber of commerce weather this week. Friday night, Jerry Parks Insurance Group sponsored the $10,000 Hunter Classic. It was won by Samantha Schaefer riding Castle owned by Ashley Toffolon.
Harrodsburg, KY — January 22, 2010 — Bob Bell, President of The Classic Company, announced new additions to the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Fall Classic to be held at Foothills Equestrian Center in Tryon, NC September 24-25, 2010. The competition will host a new championship for equitation riders broken into age groups.
“Both Carol [Kent, also of Classic Company] and I remember when there were not that many equitation classes and the age group equitation was very important at our A rated events. We feel that with so many riders not traveling and spending as much money as they did in the past that we should recognize their excellence at our Fall show in Tryon,” Bell explained the why of their decision to revive what they believe a lost tradition.
The Who is eligible would be the 11 and under, the 12-14, and the 15-17 equitation riders that are members of the North Carolina, South Carolina, or Georgia Hunter Jumper Associations. Riders can qualify by being in the top 15 equitation rankings for any of the above associations and age groupings as of September 1, 2010. Those individuals will compete on Friday afternoon before a panel of judges who will score them numerically with the top 6 riders from each age section returning on Saturday morning to compete for the Championship title.
And the What as in “Say What?” is the lack of entry fees required, as in none! Bell said, “Again, we just want to reward the hard work and achievement of these young riders. They have the talent to compete at Indoors, but given this tough economic time may not be able to attend, but we believe they should still get their due recognition.”
Awards will include a Silver Loving Cup and special cooler presented to the winner and ribbons for first through sixth places. Further spotlighting of these victors will be their inclusion in a congratulatory ad run in The Chronicle of the Horse coupled with a special press release from Flashpoint Media Services highlighting the winners and their mounts.

Laura Gironda
Horseshoes by Design was started as a way for us to give back to the horse community while also teaching my daughter that we could make a difference to those horses in need. On this journey, we learned of the many horses that require our help at rescues, sanctuaries across the country and our sales support these organizations. It has been an honor to design shoes for Monty Roberts, Lynn Palm and Templeton Thompson for the United States Equestrian Team Gala Event. I designed the 2008 Menlo Horse Show Grand Prix winner, Laura Heit in CA. My designs were also shown at the 2009 Heritage Ball in Franklin, TN. Reclaimed horseshoes are jeweled and transformed into original pieces of equestrian art. Garnets, turquoise, pearls, jade, opals, agates, crystals, woods, silver and more from around the world jewel each shoe. It is a beautiful way to honor special horses and special people. Give as unique trophies for competitions, good luck gifts for any occasion or to celebrate the life of your special horse. Select a design or color palette, send in your shoe or use one of ours and we will create something spectacular together. You can find Laura under GIFTS in our member directory.

Daniel Würgler (SUI) winner of the FEI World Cup Driving competition in Leipzig (GER). (c) Rinaldo de Craen.
Würgler takes it all in Leipzig
Leipzig (Ger), 24 January 2010 – Switzerland’s Daniel Würgler has won the sixth leg of the FEI World Cup Driving competition in Leipzig, Germany. Würgler drove two impeccable clear and fast rounds and stayed ahead of Dutch wild card driver IJsbrand Chardon and Jozsef Dobrovitz from Hungary with their Lipizzaner teams.
Second World Cup Win
It is only the second time in his long driving career that Würgler wins a World Cup Competition. In 2002, the professional coachman from Ettingen won the World Cup competition in Geneva, competing with a wild card. The 49-year-old Würgler competes with a mixed team of grey horses, including two Kladruber horses, a trotter and an Andalusian cross Camargue, which has only been in Würgler’s stables since last spring.
Winning round
Dobrovitz had the disadvantage of starting first in the winning round straight after his first round, which did not allow his horses the necessary rest. There was much at stake for the organizer of the international nations competition in Vecses since winning in Leipzig was his only chance to qualify for the Final. But Dobrovitz knocked three balls down with his three Lipizzaner horses and a trotter, which he put together after he sold three horses of his former team to Chardon. Dobrovitz came third and currently shares the 6th place in the standings with Werner Ulrich. Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=9939
