Joe Fargis Receives USHJA Lifetime Achievement Award

Fargis

FarmVet would like to congratulate Joe Fargis, one of our Sponsored Riders, for the honor he received in December from the United States Hunter Jumper Association.  Last month Fargis and fellow equestrian, Larry Langer, were awarded with the USHJA Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2009 Evening of Equestrians Dinner during.  Recipients of this award have dedicated their lives to promoting the disciplines of hunters and jumpers on a national level.

Olympian Joe Fargis certainly has an impressive list of accomplishments.  He has represented the United States for more than 40 years and continues to be a force to reckon with today.  Fargis is probably best known for his double Gold Medal wins at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games with Touch of Class.  Then in 1988 at the Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea, Fargis and his mount, Mill Pearl, helped the U.S. team win the Silver Medal.

Today Fargis continues to compete in Grand Prix events around the country and has recent wins at such events as the American Gold Cup in Devon, the USET Wellington Cup, the Hampton Classic Grand Prix, and the I Love New York Grand Prix.  Fargis also gives back to the equestrian community by serving on the USHJA Horse Welfare Committee and by teaching clinics all over the country.

Women’s Horse Industry Association New Member Spotlights

Hi Everyone:
We get a lot of very cool new members and most of them get a spotlight on the front page of our website. Here are some WOMEN YOU SHOULD KNOW IN THE HORSE INDUSTRY. Please check them out!

Casey Irving – West Point Thoroughbreds
Many people only know Saratoga as a racing town, a town that comes alive for 6 weeks a year and then falls back to a dormant state for the other 46 weeks.  Casey grew up in Saratoga, within walking distance to the famous downtown; and contrary to some opinions, the town does have life to it outside of the summer meet.  Her family has been there since the early 1900s, landing upstate after immigrating from Ireland.  Growing up, Casey went to the track regularly with her parents, and once a summer she and her dad would have breakfast at the track, but not at the restaurant.  They would bring their own bagels and go sit in the owner’s boxes.  Like most of Saratoga’s residents, Casey and her family appreciated the track season for the electricity it brought into their town. Casey attended Syracuse University and was a member of the women’s rowing team.  Upon completing her degree, she was hired by Skidmore College, a liberal arts college in Saratoga, to do Donor Relations.  During her time there, she realized what she loved about her job was interacting with different people, and helping them have the best experience possible when visiting Saratoga.  So in the summer of 2009 when Casey learned that West Point Thoroughbreds was looking for someone to assist in the area of Client Services, she jumped at the chance for an interview.  The position combines her love of sports with her passion for customer service.  “There is nothing better than helping someone have an amazing and memorable experience.  Anything I can do to help someone out in that regard is really rewarding for me.”  Casey was brought on to assist Tom Bellhouse in the East Coast Region of West Point Thoroughbreds.  In this role, she strives to make each experience a memorable one for any partner who lives in or visits the east coast. And when people say to her that she has the best job in the world, she answers: “I can’t argue there, working for WPT has been incredible.  Everyone, both staff and partners, is so passionate about what they do, and eager to share their stories; it’s great.  My first time in the Winner’s Circle was at Belmont, and it’s definitely something I will never forget.” You can find CASEY in our member’s directory under SYNDICATIONS.

Lynn Baber
Lynn Baber is a Christian writer and retired equine professional. She shares lessons learned in 35 years at the business table and round pen with readers and audiences. Founder of Amazing Grays Ministry, Lynn uses her experience as a horse trainer, breeder, judge and consultant as a vehicle to share messages of grace and victory, as well as to promote more successful horse-human relationships. Amazing Grays Ministry focuses on the equine industry, using books, articles, video, music and personal presentations to connect with other believers. Many WHIA members serve as both friends and inspirations in the work of the ministry. Lynn’s latest book is scheduled for release in Spring 2010, AMAZING GRAYS – AMAZING GRACE: Pursuing relationship with God, horses, and one another. You can find Lynn under MINISTRY in our membership directory.
