Georgia Dillon and Leonetti finished as reserve champions in the Pine Hollow Adult Amateur Hunter 3'3" division in the first week of the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival.

Wellington, FL – January 15, 2010 – The first week of competition of the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival continued today at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.  The final championships were awarded today in some of the Adult Amateur divisions, while many of the junior hunters just began their first day of competition for the weekend.

The Pine Hollow Adult Amateur Hunter 3’3″ division wrapped up its competition for the week, and emerging victorious with the championship was Love Notes, with owner/rider Courtney Carey.  Carey, originally from Cockeysville, MD, is currently a senior at the University of South Carolina and plans to commute back and forth from South Carolina almost every weekend to compete at the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival.

Carey bought Love Notes, or “Lovey,” in the beginning of the year, and her trainer, Jen Bauersachs, showed him throughout 2009 in the Pre-Green Hunter and First Year Green Hunter divisions.  Carey describes her 6-year-old Oldenburg as a “really sweet horse with a good temperament.” Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=9825

The Animals in Haiti Need Our Help

Haiti_1The earthquake in Haiti is being described as “catastrophic,” a disaster that plunged an already impoverished country into “ruins.”

Nations and nonprofit organizations around the world are rallying to provide food, water and medical care to people who are suffering – a major challenge given the massive destruction and widespread poverty in Haiti.

But we know you are asking yourself: What about the animals?

United Animal Nations has joined the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH), an international group of professional animal welfare organizations working together to help the animals affected by this tragedy. Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=9822

Sheryl Crow & Willie Nelson Shout Out for Wild Horses – Take Action!

Calico Horses, sweaty in the cold

Calico Horses, sweaty in the cold

Read the new People Magazine Article & then call for immediate Congressional hearings on BLM

Dear Supporters, the excellent People Magazine article by Helin Jung starts out: Willie Nelson wants to know: “Why are there more horse’s asses than there are horses?” The country legend’s gripe comes from his concern for the American West’s wild horses and burros, which are being rounded up by the thousands and placed into holding corrals by the federal government’s Bureau of Land Management. The capture of 2,500 horses started in the Calico Mountains of Nevada last month, but the agency expects to round up a total of 12,000 of the estimated 37,000 horses on BLM land by the end of this year.

Read the whole article here on the People Magazine website, and then take action!

Protests continue: join the New York City protest on Sunday, the Reno protest on Monday and/or the Sacramento protest on Thursday the 21st! Click here for details.

Kent Farrington & Up Chiqui Repeat Win at $30k International Opener

Kent Farrington & Up Chiqui

Kent Farrington & Up Chiqui

January 15, 2010 – Green Cove Springs, FL – Greenwich, Connecticut’s pride Kent Farrington and Up Chiqui, owned by Farrington, kicked off the second week of the 2010 Jacksonville Winter Series with a repeat victory in the $30,000 Green Cove Springs Welcome CSI sponsored by Canadian National Railroad. This evening’s class was a preview of things to come at Saturday’s premiere event, the $100,000 Green Cove Springs CSI3* Grand Prix, a qualifying stop on the road towards the World Cup Finals in Geneva, Switzerland this year.

Dave Ballard of Ontario, Canada returned for his fifth year as course designer for the FEI events. His resume includes being one of the few O Class designers in the world. The course for tonight was a technical one round speed layout of 13 obstacles at regulation 1.45m (maximum height 4’9″) with a time allowance of 83 seconds. The tracks were a little long with several tight turns. One of the three double combinations [6AB-oxer to vertical] became the deal breaker which cost many a rider their shot at a paycheck. Riders coming off the #5 liverpool found there was minimal space to attempt an inside turn as the #3 oxer loomed close enough to prevent a square approach to the oxer at #6.  While the wise ones elected to safely go around the #3, Farrington and Up Chiqui went for the improbable. “I just know him really well and this type of class is his specialty,” tonight’s winner said of the tight squeeze play, then added with a smile, “His bravery is why we can do that inside turn.” Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=9817
