Women’s Horse Industry Association Reaches 600 Member Mark!

January 13, 2010 – The Women’s Horse Industry Association has reached the 600 member mark. The association which was formed on June 25, 2009 is a networking organization designed to help women working in the horse industry gather the contacts and information they need to succeed. In addition to members in the United States, chapters are starting in Canada, Argentina, Australia, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Ginger Kathrens, Executive Director of the Cloud Foundation, is the 600th member. “We are very pleased that our association has been so well received and that the quality of our membership is so exceptional and diverse,” states WHIA Executive Director, Catherine Masters.

Members in the WHIA come from all areas of the horse industry from dressage to thoroughbred racing and everything in between. Just about every product you need in the horse industry is available through its members. “If you need something for your horse industry business and you can’t find it from one of our members, chances are, it doesn’t exist,” states WHIA Vice President, Debby Lening.

The group wants to let the rest of the world know about its members and will be publishing a huge directory of women working in the horse industry called, “Women You Should Know in the Horse Industry”. The directory is open to members and non members of the association and will be published in early Spring. Please check the group’s website for information on listings.

The Arizona Horse Expo: Cloud Foundation Executive Director Ginger Kathrens and Dances with Wolves author Michael Blake will speak together at the First Annual Arizona Horse Expo on January 16 and 17 in Tucson, Arizona. Please join them for what are sure to be entertaining and informative presentations about our wild horses! Tickets are on sale now – please visit our website calendar for more details. The Cloud Foundation will have a booth and Ginger will be signing Cloud books, DVDs, posters and Breyer models to support the Foundation’s work (also available at The Cloud Foundation’s online store).

New York City Protest: Expected to be the largest protest in wild horse history, all are encouraged to come to Columbus Circle (58th St at Central Park South) this Sunday, January 17th from 1-3pm. Bring friends and signs: stand up for wild horses in the west and call for an end to the tax-payer funded mismanagement of our wild herds. This protest is a collaborative effort organized by local advocate & mustang owner Jo De George with support from The Cloud Foundation, Equine Welfare Alliance, In Defense of Animals, Return to Freedom and 40 more coalition members of the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign.

Next Week’s Rallies: A protest is planned for Reno, Nevada on January 18th and a major protest will take place in Sacramento, California on Thursday January 21st (organized by local advocates, TCF and In Cloud_eatsDefense of Animals). Details online.

Remember what Freedom just fought to regain and let’s continue to work for the protection and preservation of our wild herds in their western ecosystems. The newly updated BLM roundup schedule is online here. The call for an immediate moratorium on roundups must continue – thank you for all your support.

Take Action Here.

FEI Executive Board Reinstated

13 January 2010 – The FEI President HRH Princess Haya has called on the FEI Executive Board to take a more active role in key matters facing equestrian sport in 2010. Following its first meeting of the year, which took place via conference call yesterday (12 January), the FEI Bureau has today approved the President’s proposal, naming Chairman of Geographical Group II Hanfried Haring (GER) and Chairman of Geographical Group VI Pablo Mayorga (ARG) to the Executive Board, in addition to 1st Vice President Sven Holmberg (SWE) and 2nd Vice President Chris Hodson (NZL).

The terms of the current Executive Board members run through to the 2010 General Assembly in November, coinciding with the end of the President’s current term in office.

The FEI Bureau decides on the specific mandate of the Executive Board, whose role is generally to interface with FEI Headquarters to oversee and support the implementation of resolutions further to an agenda approved by the Bureau.

The full role of the Executive Board, its composition and meeting process are detailed in the Internal Regulations of the FEI Bureau, Art. 4.5. <http://www.fei.org/Rules/Documents/Internal%20Regulations%20of%20the%20Bureau%20-updated%2019Nov09.pdf>
