FROM HEADQUARTERS:
I am often asked what the Women’s Horse Industry Association is, what its mission and goals are, etc. My response is pretty simple. We are a BUSINESS NETWORK for women working in the horse industry worldwide. We exist for one reason only: TO HELP OUR MEMBERS DO MORE BUSINESS! And, it’s working. Each and every day I get phone calls and emails from people telling me that they are doing business around the country with other members. They are connecting with each other on a regular basis and not only doing business but making life long friends. The cool thing about our association and its members is that we are a very diversified group and cover all disciplines of the horse industry. And, if you were at our first conference you know that to be a fact. But, unlike other events, when our members get together they help one another and don’t just stay within their disciplines. They work with everyone. And, that makes us really happy. Remember, the more contacts you have the more business you can do so keep on making those phone calls and sending those emails. It’s working!

2009 Whitney Stone Cup winner McLain Ward riding Sapphire.
Gladstone, NJ – November 20, 2009 – The USET Foundation is pleased to announce that the Whitney Stone Cup has been awarded to McLain Ward of Brewster, NY. The Whitney Stone Cup is awarded annually by the USET Foundation Executive Committee to an active competitor who displays consistent excellence in international competition, high standards of sportsmanlike conduct, while also serving as an ambassador for the United States and equestrian sport.
The Whitney Stone Cup is given in honor of the late Whitney Stone, who served as President and Chairman of the Board of the USET. Whitney Stone led the USET from 1953 to 1973. He was instrumental in the creation of a civilian team when the Army retired from competitive horse sports after 1948.
USET Foundation President and CEO, Jane F. Clark, stated, “McLain is not only one of this country’s top equestrian athletes, but one of the best international competitors in our sport. His great talent and representation of this country make him a very deserving recipient of the USET Foundation’s prestigious Whitney Stone Cup.” Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=9055
Lausanne, 1 December 2009 – The FEI has announced today (1 December) that the FEI Bureau has passed a Resolution delaying implementation of the new Equine Prohibited Substances List and the accompanying Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations until 5 April 2010. This Resolution has been passed in order to allow for broader debate and consultation on the policy change approved at the recent FEI General Assembly regarding the restricted use of a small number of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
The FEI recognizes that a number of issues arise as a result of this policy change, which was voted in by a majority of 53-48 at the meeting in Copenhagen on 19 November. The change in policy will affect National Federations and organizers who must comply with state laws as well as international competition rules. It has implications for the breeding industry and the selection of horses and may impact on all those concerned with animal welfare. It also affects the laboratories involved in the testing procedures. The decision, which reversed the 1993 ban on phenylbutazone, has provoked considerable debate among FEI stakeholders.
The FEI acknowledges that these concerns are all legitimate and feels that there is clearly a need for further debate on the issue. The delayed implementation of the new Equine Prohibited Substances List will also allow for supplementary research to be carried out on the use of NSAIDs in the competition horse.
