Beezie Madden to Ride Champion Horse Judgement for Last Time at Syracuse Invitational

Celebrated horse’s career to be honored in final public appearance during Animal Planet Sporthorse Cup

Syracuse, NY – October 22, 2009 – Judgement, Olympic Gold Medalist Beezie Madden’s long-time partner, will make his final appearance before fans in a ceremony to be held on Sunday, November 1 during the Animal Planet Sporthorse Cup at the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament. The storied 18-year-old dark bay stallion is a two-time winner of the Cup, and arguably one of the most successful American bred stallions in show jumping history.

Madden, who has ridden the horse to world fame, will ride Judgement once again into the arena for a ceremony and retrospective of his career that will include Judgement’s owner and breeder Mary Alice Malone of Iron Spring Farm. The Cup will begin at 2 p.m., and the ceremony will take place during phases II and III.

“It will be a bittersweet moment for me, riding Judgement into the ring for the last time,” commented Madden. “We thought it was appropriate to do in front of his Syracuse fans where he certainly loved to jump. I will miss competing with him, but it is the right thing to do for him, and I couldn’t ask for more from him than he has already given.” Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=8585

Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum Hosted a Media Day to Discuss the Rolex FEI World Cup

Marcus and Meredith on Checkmate

On Wednesday 7 October 2009, Rolex Testimonee and current Rolex FEI World Cup™ Champion, Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum hosted a media day at her stables in Thedinghausen, Germany to discuss the Rolex FEI World Cup™ which starts in the Norwegian capital Oslo on Sunday 11 October.

Below are quotes from Rolex Testimonee and Rolex FEI World Cup™ holder Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum undertaken at her stables on 7th October 2009 during a media stable visit:

On news that her first baby is due in February and plans to defend her Rolex title in Geneva:

“I did not want to be one of those riders who worried they were missing out – say  a WEG or  the Olympic Games – when having a baby, and Markus felt that while Shutterfly and Checkmate were at the top of their  game I should keep riding if I wanted to.”

“We could not be happier with the way things have turned out.  Because of my age [she will be 40 in December], I have stopped showing already. Markus, my doctor and, it seems, the other riders, all agree I was right to step down even before Oslo!

“But it is still very important to me to have a goal, and the 2010 Rolex final is just right.”

On resting Shutterfly and Checkmate:

“As Shutterfly is coming up to 17, I am keeping aware of what he is telling me,” said Meredith. “We hope and believe that both will be refreshed by their break, but you have to be prepared for the possibility they could come back rusty instead.

“At the moment, I would expect that either one to take me to the Rolex FEI World Cup Final in Geneva, and as Le Mans is coming back into work after his injury, he will take the pressure off them in Grand Prix.”

Meredith has already earmarked Lancaster as an alternate for Geneva:

“His experience says it’s too early but his ability says otherwise. The arena at Geneva is more spacious than some, which makes this an exciting prospect.”

Who to watch out for this season in the Rolex FEI World Cup?

“Any of the Germans, of course!” she exclaimed. “Plus Steve Guerdat – and Kevin Staut have got an exceptional string.

“To me the Rolex FEI World Cup will always be special. Las Vegas was my greatest achievement, because I won all three legs, and emotions were tied up in it because my father had recently died.

“But the important thing is that you don’t rely on being selected; you qualify for the World Cup on your own merit. It will always be the one true marker of the very best.”

A podcast featuring Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum has been created following a visit to her stables on Wednesday 7 October 2009 which she hosted to preview the 2009 – 2010 Rolex FEI World Cup. During the podcast she discusses a range of topics including her pregnancy and plans for the forthcoming season, plus her historic victory at the Rolex FEI World Cup Final in Las Vegas in April.
