Orlando, FL (October 21, 2009) – Members of the American Shetland Pony Club, the American Miniature Horse Registry and the American Show Pony Registry (ASPC/AMHR/ASPR) will reap the rewards for a successful year and plan for 2010 at the small equine organization’s upcoming annual convention. Supporters of the versatile and popular small equine breeds will meet in Orlando, Florida, November 5-7.

The ASPC/AMHR/ASPR are non-profit organizations established to preserve and refine the bloodlines of small equines and promote the enjoyment of small equines. “Despite a shaky economy, small equines have continued to grow in numbers throughout the country. Due to their small size and affordable price, both children and adults own and show these remarkable breeds,” said Johnny Robb, Director of Marketing for the ASPC/AMHR. “Our annual convention helps us stay focused and continue to grow and promote the greatest little equines in America.”

Thanks to M & D Printing all convention attendee will be treated to a VIP evening at the Arabian Nights Dinner Theatre, home to Tap Dance Kidd (Dancer) a three-time Grand National Champion American Shetland Pony. In an effort to keep Shetlands and Miniatures in the spotlight, the ASPC/AMHR donated Dancer to Arabian Nights as the first-ever ambassador of the breed to appear at the popular attraction. HSBC FEI Classics News 19/2009: Pau (FRA) Preview

TOWNEND INTENDS TO SEAL VICTORY AT HSBC FEI CLASSICS FINALE

Oliver Townend (GBR) has left no stone unturned in his burning ambition to win the valuable HSBC FEI Classics, and is giving Andrew Cawthray’s elegant grey Thoroughbred Carousel Quest another outing, at Les Etoiles de Pau (FRA), the last event of the 2009 season.

The pair were recently impressive winners of The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials (GBR), and, in a year to remember, put Townend into the elite band of riders who have won that and the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials, which he captured on Flint Curtis earlier this year, within 12 months.

These excellent results combined with 8th place on Carousel Quest at the first of the HSBC FEI Classics, the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event (USA), has given Townend a clear 12-point lead as we approach the series climax, at Les Etoiles de Pau. Townend is not invincible though as last year’s winner, William Fox-Pitt (GBR) could still overhaul him if he wins and, with Fox-Pitt’s record, that’s far from impossible. Fox-Pitt, too, has armed himself with a serious 4* ride, the Argentine Thoroughbred Macchiato, 5th at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials (GBR) this year and a winner last year of Luhmühlen CCI**** presented by E.ON Avacon Vertrieb (GER). Habitat for Horses Newsletter: Tabitha’s Story

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 | Associations - Breeds, Horse Care | Comments

161October 20, 2009 – She stood by the fence looking scared and lonely. Her bone thin body held no warmth to protect her against the chilly breeze that whipped across the muddy, weed-filled pasture, making her shiver even harder. She was slowly dying of starvation.

As we pulled the Habitat for Horses truck up next to the road, she made a weak effort to whinny to us, hoping, no doubt, that we had feed or hay. She had gone so long without, but she still hoped that some human would care enough to help her.

We had received the call that morning, a hesitant child’s voice telling us about her horse. “My daddy left a few months ago and mom lost her job. We don’t have enough money to feed her anymore. Mom has to pay the rent or we’re going to be evicted.” Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=8548
