HuntTosh_FineKiss_DER-B

October 2, 2009 — Upper Marlboro, MD – Hunt Tosh went into the first round of the 15th annual Professional World Championship Hunter Rider Finals for the 2009 AHJF Professional WCHR title, as if it belonged to him.  He negotiated the highest mark in the first round and never looked back.  Four rounds later he won the highest honor for a professional rider for his very first attempt in this prestigious class, which took place on October 2nd at the Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, MD.

The 2009 WCHR Professional Finals was sponsored by Stillwell-Hansen, Inc., presented by John R. Ingram Fund & the Ingram Family, produced by the American Hunter-Jumper Foundation (AHJF) and hosted at the Capital Challenge Horse Show.

The riders were escorted into the arena in a carriage.  It was a very impressive opening to the evening and set the stage for the night, which began with a buffet dinner in the concourse and was followed by presentations of special awards and then the class of the six finalists: Hunt Tosh, Peter Pletcher, Ken Berkley, Scott Stewart, Kelley Farmer and John French. Women’s Horse Industry Association Newsletter October 5, 2009

WomensHorseIndustry-logoFROM HEADQUARTERS: Fall is in the air and I know everyone is happy about that! And, it seems while the economy is still not what it was several years ago, it is getting better. People are still doing business and the farms, breeders and suppliers and horse service companies are still out there keeping our industry alive.

What I have found in times like this is this: This is when everyone in business has to go beyond the norm and create new ways of doing things and innovative ways of marketing. Here at headquarters we are getting ready for our upcoming conference and planning ways we can help our members become more successful. As many of you know, I have more than 35 years of marketing experience and I can tell you what works and what doesn’t. In those many years of operating and helping small business owners succeed, I’ve seen a lot of creative marketing. Some which has been hugely successful and some that didn’t work at all. One of the things I always tell my clients is to try to come up with additional services you can offer you clients. Every business has to expand and grow and this is one way they do it. Look at any successful business and while they start with one product, if they are to continue to grow and prosper, they find additional services and products they can offer. Another thing that really is helpful to small business owners is customer service. Pick up the phone and call all of your clients and say “Hi.” Don’t try to sell them anything. Just ask how they are and how their business is doing. Let your customers know you care and you will have them for life. GEORGETOWN, KY – OCTOBER 5, 2009 – Two-time Whitney Handicap winner Commentator arrived at Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Facility yesterday under clear skies and perfect temperatures.

The handsome chestnut was transported from Mike Evans’ Sheltowee Farm in Versailles, KY courtesy of Sallee Horse Vans, and arrived at Old Friends’ Dream Chase Farm at around 11: 30 am.  After greeting a group of well-wishers and photographers, he was cared for and then turned out by Old Friends farm managers Kent Ralstin and Janet Beyersdorfer.

After surveying his new home, the gelding quickly showed the crowd that while he may be retired his competitive edge has not waned. After a few lopes around his new paddock, he challenged retiree Bull in the Heather – whose paddock is across the lane – to a contest, racing the Florida Derby winner several times along the fence lines. Upper Marlboro, MD – October 4, 2009 – The 2009 Capital Challenge Horse Show drew to a close today with final classes for the junior and children’s hunters. The Grand Junior Hunter Championship went to Heartfelt and Laura King. Kelly Cruciotti rode Q to the Grand Children’s Hunter Championship.

The Grand Junior Hunter Champion was Laura King aboard Heartfelt, the champions of the Small Junior Hunter 16-17 division, which was awarded yesterday. Heartfelt is owned by Blantyre Farm of Irvington, NY. King was also presented with the best Junior Hunter Rider Award. The EMO Junior Trip of the Show was a tie with a score of 88.5 between Red Rooster and Alex Arute and Sarah Sturges with Sweet Addiction.

King, who has ridden Heartfelt for three years, said of the pretty bay gelding, “His jump is really cool. It is probably the best part about riding him,” she said. “He’s very sweet.” Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=8372

Chester Weber Maintains His Lead after Marathon

Lexington, KY – October 5, 2009 – Chester Weber of Ocala, FL, is one step closer to victory in the 2009 Kentucky Cup test event for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games — and a record 7th USEF National Championship.

Weber was in the lead after the first day of competition, the dressage phase, and maintained his lead in the overall standings with a two phase score of 129.05 after the Marathon.

“This track is going to be wonderful for next year,” said Weber. “The obstacles are well constructed, super horse friendly and positioned so that the spectators will be able to see all the action. My horses did extremely well today. In fact when I came off #4 (Mick’s Mountain) going down the hill, I thought I was in Europe.” Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=8370
