The Women’s Horse Industry Association is pleased to announce that Janet Del Castillo will be speaking at the upcoming Women’s Horse Industry conference November 3-4, 2009 in Louisville, Kentucky.

She was the only American in a small rural village where she delivered babies by candlelight and inoculated neighboring villagers against an outbreak of smallpox, traveling to them by dugout canoe. Tulsa, OK (October 1, 2009) – Three deserving youth fulfilled their dreams of owning their own American Miniature Horse by winning the Youth Essay Contest at the 2009 annual American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR) National Championship Show. Jennifer Wippler, Mackenzie Schulte and Kevin Byers all entered the Youth Essay Contest at the National Championship and took home an adorable donated mini at the end of the show.
Wippler won a 2008 mini yearling named Cross Country Made in America, donated by Belinda Bagley of Cross Country Shetlands. “I love horses of all kinds, but Miniature Horses are my favorite,” Wippler wrote in her essay. “The reason I want this Miniature Horse is so I can train him myself. I plan to train him to drive, jump and do obstacle.”
Bagley, who donated Wippler’s winning mini, is a judge, director, trainer and breeder, and has donated a mini for the Youth Essay Contest for the past five years. “There have been times when I have been judging a show and wished I could just give all the youth competitors a horse,” Bagley said. “Through this program I can do that and also know that when the youth compete they will have high quality horses.” Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=8347

New Market, TN — September 29, 2009 — “Excited and overwhelmed!” were how Gallop in the Glen co-chair Kim Burnett Mitchell described the opening week. “I feel the show was a success due to the GREAT exhibitors, GREAT parties every night, GREAT music each night, a GREAT staff, and GREAT officials!” an exuberant Mitchell said.
Even Saturday’s downpour of rain didn’t dampen spirits or good times. “Everyone still kept telling me how thrilled with the show they were! Actually this facility can handle an unbelievable amount of rain and the drainage is super. Rings held up great and were practically dry by Sunday morning,” Mitchell shared.
Gallop in the Glen debuted in 2004 as the brainchild of Kim Burnett Mitchell along with the efforts of her husband Dennis and show manager Patrick Rodes of Argyle, TX. Set among the picturesque Smoky Mountain area at the River Glen Equestrian facility in New Market, TN, the show is already regaining its reputation of embodying the glam of yesteryear’s horse shows with its sumptuous parties and charitable giving. “This week’s donations will greatly aid SOS Animal Rescue in its mission of providing assistance to animals in need nationwide,” Kim said. The $25,000 SOS Animal Rescue Grand Prix had 32 starters taking on a technical layout by renowned designer Michel Vaillancourt. A mere three advanced to the heart-stopping jump off round and from them Leo Paoli aboard Remonta Escaupil emerged the victor. A hard fought second place went to Christian Curry riding Cenzo and third place went to David Beisel with Moet Walk. “Seeing the spectators lined around the ring cheering their favorites was as thrilling as the class itself,” Kim stated.
