The opponents of clean energy are not taking a summer vacation. They are flooding Senate offices with emails, phone calls, and letters opposing the comprehensive climate change and clean energy bill that passed the House in May. When your Senators return to D.C. next week to tally constituent feedback, let’s make sure the “Clean Energy NOW” column has more checks than the “Status Quo FOREVER” column. It’s a numbers game, and right now we aren’t winning.
Email your Senators today urging them to go beyond supporting the bill –urge them to significantly strengthen the bill. Right now only 6 Senators have expressed public support for Senator Udall’s amendment requiring 25% of our nation’s electricity to come from renewable sources by 2025 – up from the business-as-usual 15% target that came out of the House-passed bill. Ask your Senator to join that list of renewable energy champions.
Without a stronger renewable requirement, this comprehensive bill will have a marginal affect on renewable energy development in this country. That means we miss the opportunity to make the U.S. an economic leader in the new global energy marketplace and an environmental leader when it comes time for climate change negotiations in Copenhagen. The Udall plan would address both – creating 297,000 new jobs and reducing global warming pollution by the equivalent of taking 45.3 million cars off the road (Union of Concerned Scientists data).
It’s your planet…
Onwards,
Annie + the Vote Solar Team
P.S. Do you live in Washington D.C.? Vote Solar’s Adam Browning will be on Capitol Hill next week to brief Congressional staff on what solar’s changing cost equation means for policy. Come join the fun.

The American Quarter Horse Racing Journal, September 3, 2009 – Tracking the connections between Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird (TB) and horses qualified for this weekend’s All American Futurity and Derby (G1) is like a game of “six degrees of separation.”
The All American Futurity – first run in 1959; the world’s first million-dollar race for any breed in 1978 – is to American Quarter Horse racing what the Kentucky Derby is to Thoroughbred racing.
New Mexico-based Chip Woolley is the famous trainer of Mine That Bird, whose owners are Mark Allen’s Double Eagle Ranch and Dr. Leonard Blach’s Buena Suerte Equine of Roswell, New Mexico. Double Eagle Ranch also owns Louisianafeature One, who was qualified to Sunday’s $624,784 All American Derby (G1) by Chip’s brother, Bill. Bill took over training Louisianafeature One back in April when Chip started out on his famous Kentucky Derby road trip with Mine That Bird. Double Eagle Ranch also owns Winners Cartel, who is qualified to the $2 million All American Futurity (G1). Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=7905
