Buffalo, NY – September 1, 2009 – The Buffalo International Horse Show will host its 63rd annual competition this fall at the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center (BTRC). The show will be held on September 9-13 in downtown Buffalo, NY. The horse show will host a number of special classes in their large indoor arena, including hunter classics.
The BIHS is one of the oldest horse shows in the country, and it raises money for a very worthy cause. All proceeds are donated to the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center, which offers programs for mentally and emotionally impaired, learning disabled, and developmentally challenged children ages 6 to 16.
The show is an USEF ‘AA’ rated event and caters to all riding abilities, ages, and divisions. The BIHS has also gotten its approval from Equine Canada, so points earned in recognized hunter divisions at the BIHS will count towards qualification for the 2009 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Lexington, KY (August 26, 2009) – The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) will induct Linda Zang and Brentina into the Roemer Foundation/USDF Hall of Fame (HOF) at the Salute Gala and Annual Awards Banquet, on December 4, 2009, during the Adequan/USDF Annual Convention in Austin, TX. Induction into the HOF is an honor bestowed on horses and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to the sport of dressage in the US.
Linda Zang has played a critical role in the growth of dressage in the United States and has helped US dressage gain prominence in the international arena. Her career has spanned over 30 years and has made a significant impact on many facets of the sport. As an international rider, Linda competed with her horse, Fellow Traveller, at the 1978 World Championships and the 1979 Pan American Games, the latter in which the US dressage team won the gold medal. As one of the top judges in the world, USEF “S” and FEI “O,” she has officiated at over 32 World Cup Qualifiers, numerous World Cup League Finals, and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA. Linda has been one of the top leaders and promoters of US dressage in the international arena. She is also a highly-respected clinician, instructor, show organizer, and FEI Technical Delegate. She has played a leadership role on many committees of USDF, USEF, and the FEI.
Brentina, an 18-year-old, chestnut, Hanoverian mare, has been one of the most outstanding horses in international competition in US history with rider, Debbie McDonald. Purchased by Parry and Peggy Thomas at the 1994 October Elite Auction in Verden, Germany, Brentina quickly progressed through the levels stacking up awards and amassing a huge fan club. In the 1999 Pan American Games, Brentina and Debbie were the individual gold medal winners, as well as members of the gold medal US team. At the 2003 FEI World Cup Dressage Final, they were the first American pair to win the World Cup Championship. In 2003, Brentina became a Breyer Limited Edition model and in 2005 she was named the Farnam/Platform USEF Horse of the Year. Brentina, with Debbie, also represented the US during the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, where the US team brought home a bronze medal, and the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong.

I would like to introduce you to Daniela Stransky Secchi, a 13 year old rider with a pension for charity work, who will be competing at the two big horse shows coming to the Cleveland Metroparks the beginning of September – The North Coast Jumper Classic and the Wachovia Securities Gold Cup. Daniela lives between Miami Beach, FL, New York City, and Beaver Creek, CO and she just started back at school. She will be showing both weeks, as will her new trainer, famed equestrian Michael Morrissey, who is now working and riding with Stransky Mission Farm in Wellington, FL.
Already a seasoned international show jumping veteran, Daniela has competed in Puerto Rico, Spain, Venezuela and around the United States. But this young rider’s passion goes far beyond blue ribbons! Come this September, Daniela will also take on a new challenge when she accompanies her mother, Liliane Stransky, for a week working in the less privileged precincts of Lahaie, Haiti. There, they will distribute school supplies, clothing and 1,000 “LifeStraws” to about 500 children who will attend the elementary school being built by Liliane’s Step by Step Foundation (www.stepbystepfoundation.com).
The LifeStraws, which look like plastic flutes, are personal microbiological water purifiers, so children don’t have to walk like three hours to get water. It allows locals to get water from a river, or even a puddle! When not in the saddle or at school, Daniela donates her time and most of any winnings in the show ring to charities that she has been involved in since the age of 7 years old.
Originally from Venezuela, she and her family moved in 2000 to Florida, where Liliane founded the Step by Step Foundation (to help children internationally with the basic needs of clothing, food, education and medical care). Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, is the group’s current focus.
