Kent Farrington and Madison Win at Devon; Soar to Number Three in the Race for AGA Rider and Horse of the Year

Wellington, Fl – June 6 – Kent Farrington posted the biggest win of his young show jumping career at the $75,000 Budweiser Grand Prix of Devon on Thursday night, June 2, 2005, and in the process moved back into the heat of the battle for the year end titles for the American Grand Prix Association (AGA).

Entering its twenty-seventh year, the AGA Grand Prix Series of Show Jumping is the world’s richest and longest running series of equestrian show jumping events. The AGA offers over $3 million dollars in prize money on a tour that encompasses thirty events and twenty different equestrian market locations across the United States. There are eighteen events remaining on this year’s schedule; eight in the West and ten in the East.

Farrington picked up twenty-five points and added two clear rounds to his totals and moved into a third place tie with McLain Ward in the Rider of the Year standings. Farrington matches Ward’s season total of 63 points and 5 clear rounds. Ward picked up two points at Devon for his top twelve finish. Laura Kraut (88/8) and Beezie Madden (75/6), competing in Europe on the United States Samsung Super League squad, still hold down the top two spots. Farrington has placed in seven of the eleven AGA East Coast events this season, including a second place finish in the $100,000 US Open Jumper Championship presented by CN, CSI 4* at Wellington, Florida, on March 13, 2005. Jimmy Torano, a third place finisher in the Budweiser Grand Prix of Devon, picked up 11 points and a clear round and jumped from fifteenth to tenth on the current Rider of the Year list.

Madison, Farrington’s winning mount at Devon, won $22,500 and moved into sole possession of third place in the AGA Horse of the Year standings. Madison has bankrolled a total of $57,000 in prize money this year. Authentic (Beezie Madden) remains atop the Horse of the Year leader board with $63,656 in total money won. Armani (Jeffery Welles) maintains second with $58,250. Aguila (Jimmy Torano) jumped into contention in the nineteenth spot.

The AGA Rookie of the Year race remains a battle between Ellen Whitaker and Cayce Harrison with
$29,500 and $20,750, respectively. Max Amaya pocketed $1,500 at the Budweiser Grand Prix of Devon and moved into third place.

On June 12, 2005, AGA show jumping action resumes on both the East and West coasts. The $35,000 Oaks Classic is the featured event at San Juan Capistrano, California, and in Virginia, it’s the $100,000 Budweiser Upperville Jumper Classic.

Following the Upperville Jumper Classic, the AGA tour moves to upstate New York for two stops in Lake Placid, NY. Sunday, July 3rd, it’s the $60,000 Lake Placid Grand Prix CSI followed by the $75,000 I Love New York Grand Prix CSI on Saturday, July 9th. The $40,000 Cleveland Grand Prix in Moreland Hills, Ohio, follows on Sunday, July 17, 2005. The Cleveland Grand Prix, the nation’s oldest and longest running Grand Prix, celebrates forty years of show jumping excellence this year.

In the West, the scene shifts to Colorado for two weeks. On Saturday, July 16, the $40,000 Rocky Mountain Grand Prix takes center stage followed by the $60,000 Grand Prix of Denver on Saturday, July 23. Both events are scheduled for Parker, Colorado. The $25,000 Evergreen Classic in Monroe, Washington, follows on Sunday, August 14, 2005.
