Brevard based Hunter/Jumper Organization
“Horse Shows in the Park”

It took an idea, 2 stubborn women and some dedicated men – but it’s paid off for the exhibitors and members of Florida’s newest and most successful unrecognized horse show organization – the Florida Hunter Classic Association – based out of Brevard County and now having far reaching impact throughout the state. It started as a fond remembrance of the days of yesterday when silver trophies were the norm and horse showing was special – but these two women put their memories into action… Denise Hyde and Jeanne Winslow both have full time jobs, families and farms – but every other waking hour of the day is spent in organizing and managing their favorite endeavor – horse shows! Just ask Page Winslow, Jeanne’s patient husband – when he isn’t engaged in Astronaut Rescue training or his “normal” activity associated with the Space Program – he’s building new jumps, beveling poles and generally being the backbone of the more physical requirements of the show. Last year in 2004 saw the enrollment of almost 140 members – and the conclusion of a wonderful show year with a Championship Finals that awarded two Oakcroft Tack Trunks, custom bridles, silver cups, huge trophies, crystal and over $6000 worth of prizes to exhibitors in over 36 divisions… quite a bit to live up to for a “non-recognized” horse show organization!!! The show got it’s start in Melbourne FL over 4 years ago, and 2005 will see the organization once again holding one day shows held at Wickham Park in Melbourne as well as their popular 2 day hunter/jumper shows at Rocking Horse Stables in Altoona, FL. This year’s Altoona based shows will also see the addition of the new TCS Saddlery $3000 Hunter Classic Invitational competition – for more info see www.horseshowsinthepark.com or call 321-243-3865.
